Mechanics in this position drill, bond, and rivet detail parts (e.g., nut plates, latches, pulley brackets) to build minor sub assemblies such as portions of overhead stowage bins, cockpit instrument panels, electrical boxes, duct assemblies, and assorted brackets. These sub assemblies are later incorporated in larger assemblies that are subsequently installed on the airplane.
Employment in this position also requires reaching, handling, turning/twisting, lifting/lowering, repetitive motion, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, lifting less than 10 pounds, contact with aluminum, titanium, steel, plastics, fiberglass, graphite composites, exposure to noise, resins, sealants, primers, solvents, corrosion inhibiting compounds and the use of personal safety gear for eyes and ears.
Additional Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
- Obtain appropriate engineering drawing(s) for assigned job.
- Obtain and verify kitted (pre-picked) detail parts, standards, and assemblies were issued correctly by comparing part numbers and quantities to drawing(s). Ensure that parts issued are effective for the airplane and are free of visible defects.
- Initiate planning or engineering change requests for pre-planned jobs.
- Set up assembly tools per instructions or drawings.
- Make sure all locators are correct for particular model configuration.
- Locate parts on assembly tools, mating parts and/or assemblies per drawing or instructions.
- Align parts to tool stops, matching pilot holes or by hand layout (as required) and secure in place using Clecos or tooling/hand clamps.
- Check for good edge margins and alignment. Shim parts as required.
- Select drill bits, reamers and/or countersinking tools for pilot and full size holes per drawings or instructions.
- Drill pilot holes using drill motor and proper size drill bit(s).
- Drill, ream, countersink full size holes in parts/assemblies, in proper sequence and to correct size using drill motor (e.g. Winslow, 90-Degree Power Vane, or Quackenbush).
- Set countersinking tools to proper depth.
- Disassemble parts and deburr holes using chip chasers, deburring tools, and files to prepare for installation of fasteners. Use solvents to clean surfaces prior to sealing or assembly.
- Apply sealant, alodine, primer, adhesives, special finishes using the appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner.
- Determine and obtain correct type and size fasteners from Roto-Bin (e.g. hi-locks, rivets, bolts, nuts).
- Install fasteners per drawing using correct tools (e.g. rivet gun and bucking bar, lock bolt puller, power screwdriver, C-squeeze, ratchet wrench, nut runner).
- Check work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure assembly is complete per drawing, that there are no defects (e.g. gapped heads, high rivets, tool marks, incorrect length fasteners), and that area around job is clean, prior to putting up for inspection.
- Sell completed job or in-process checks to inspector at appropriate steps in sequence.
- Perform minor rework as required (e.g. pick-ups).
- Consult with management and/or others (e.g. engineering, planning, inspection) on process or job related issues.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- High school diploma and/or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Set up assembly tools per instructions or drawings.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Apply sealant, alodine, primer, adhesives, special finishes using the appropriate personal protective equipment
- Ability to obtain appropriate engineering drawing(s) for assigned job (blueprints and drawings may work for this)
- Drill, ream, countersink full size holes in parts/assemblies, in proper sequence and to correct size using drill motor (e.g. Winslow, 90-Degree Power Vane, or Quackenbush)
- Install fasteners per drawing using correct tools (e.g. rivet gun and bucking bar, lock bolt puller, power screwdriver, C-squeeze, ratchet wrench, nut runner).
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Relocation

This is an hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinist (IAM-751) Collective Bargaining agreement.
