Job Description
Job Summary
This position serves as an Academic Coach/Student Success Specialist focused primarily on meeting the needs of our special student populations (i.e., first generation, athletes, underrepresented, Pell-eligible, non-traditional, etc.), ensuring they are well prepared, on track, and meeting their educational goals.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serve as an Academic Coach for an assigned caseload of incoming and returning students. Responsibilities include verbal and written communication with student groups regarding their individual academic progress, monitoring their progress, responding to academic alerts, conducting 1:1 and group coaching, and making appropriate referrals for support and assistance. Our goal is to work collaboratively as a team committed to each student’s successful academic progress from enrollment to graduation.
- Serve as an Academic Advisor for an assigned special population caseload of incoming and returning students. Responsibilities include verbal and written communication with advisees regarding their individual academic plan, monitoring their progress, responding to academic alerts, making appropriate referrals for support and assistance, and assisting students who wish to transfer in gathering information about other institutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure that Ridgewater College has a high-quality student experience from start to finish. Examples include but are not limited to: various phone call campaigns, assisting with event days, serving on college committees as requested, and assisting other offices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of one-year related work experience.
- Knowledge of student success/student development philosophy, policy, practice.
- Experience supporting and advocating for diverse populations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally for diverse audiences.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders within the college and community.
- Experience or knowledge of academic advising and/or retention initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Bilingual

In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
