Department of Biological Sciences
The Academic Program Specialist provides administrative support to the Department of Biological Sciences to further the mission of broadening participation in the Environmental Sciences in and around Baltimore. Note: This is a part-time position working 30 hours per week.
UMBC offers competitive compensation. This role starts at $29,424 based on 30 hours per week and has vacation as well as winter break, spring break, and personal days for regular roles. Leave benefits are prorated for part-time positions.

Specific duties include:
- Create and maintain databases of information regarding individual student development plans, faculty expertise and participation; partner-practitioner expertise and participation; stakeholder expertise and participation; prospective student information; additional funding sources; and student career tracking
- Attend weekly administrative meetings to take notes and coordinate with PI to assign tasks; coordinate and attend trainee (student) interviews
- Communicate externally by maintaining the program website, updating social media, sending "thank you" letters and distributing recruitment material
- Prepare and submit enrollment, tuition and health insurance forms for 7-14 graduate students
- Coordinate special events, including annual student orientation, interdisciplinary training sessions, weekly lunches, biannual advisory board meetings, annual luncheons and cohort-building activities
- Coordinate with professional evaluators to gather statistical information and prepare the annual NSF report
- Track expenditures and collect and submit receipts to departmental business staff for reimbursement
Bachelor's Degree and one year of experience in administrative staff work are required.
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis, with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
