What is Good-2-Go?
Good-2-Go is a local Intellectual and Developmental Disability (I/DD) service that focuses on enabling independence in adults experiencing I/DD. We are a hands-off agency which believes in doing with clients instead of doing for clients. Our program has 3 mains goals:
- Enable healthy and independent life through (hands-off) in-home services
- Enable gainful and independent employment through our employment supports
- Enable friendships and community access through fun group activities.
What is an Adventure Specialist?
Adventure Specialists are employees of the ACE (Applied Community Experience) program tasked with ensuring events are fun and safe. They are responsible for providing direction for members, assisting in setup/transportation if needed, leading conversations with members, encouraging members to participate, and ensuring the safety of members.
What does an Adventure Specialist do?
Common activities include bowling, karaoke, hiking, arts and crafts, fishing, and arcade nights. Adventure Specialists help transport members, teach the key skills, facilitate social interaction between members, and ensure that the event is running according to plan.
A typical day varies based on the activity but generally includes:
- Explaining the activity and providing instructions on how to participate
- Ensuring members are safe and following social norms
- Cuing members into appropriate conversation with other members
- Transporting the members to and from activities
- Encouraging members and making sure they are enjoying themselves
Note: Good-2-Go's is a strictly hands-off agency. We do NOT help members with feeding, bathing, toileting, or other hands-on activities. Members are carefully selected so they do NOT have behavioral issues that present a risk to themselves or others.
