Responsibilities:
The Activity Therapy Specialist, Inpatient Psychiatry will work Full Time, Days and provides individualized Activity Therapy services to all patients on Inpatient Psychiatry in coordination with the multidisciplinary treatment philosophy.
  • The Activity Therapy Specialist collaborates with other members of the multidisciplinary team, patients, families and community agencies to provide patient centered care.
  • The Activity Therapy Specialist maintains knowledge and skills relevant to the discipline of Activity Therapy, as well as compliance with Bassett Healthcare education requirements.
Qualifications:
Bassett Healthcare Network follows the New York State and New York State Department of Health COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers. This mandate requires COVID-19 vaccinations for personnel working for or on behalf of our hospitals and nursing homes. The New York State mandate allows for medical exemptions and religious accommodations, when appropriate. Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Human Services, Creative Arts, or other related field is required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
  • 6 months of experience with recreational therapy or similar field required.
  • Experience working with psychiatric patients required.
Licensure/Certificates:
  • Certification in any related field is preferred.
Skills:
  • Manual dexterity for craft projects is necessary.
  • Good communication, teaching, and problem solving skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices of occupational, recreational, music or art therapy.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct a varied activity therapy program.
  • Ability to devise work projects, instruct patients, and evaluate their progress.
  • Ability to maintain records, prepare reports and conduct correspondence.
  • Serves as an advocate and provides information to create understanding of the goals.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be physically able to engage in recreational activities.
  • On feet much of day, with lifting and moving of supplies.
