Harris County Public Library (HCPL) - History What began in 1921 and the years following as a collection of small libraries housed in stores, post offices and private homes has grown into a system of 26 branch buildings, 2 technology service centers, and 2 partner locations offering collection/circulation services. HCPL operates branches in unincorporated parts of Harris County and cities which do not have their own library systems.
Adult Program Librarian Overview:Duties & Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and promote adult services and programs, including summer reading and other special events
- Identify information needs in the community and plan and provide services to meet these needs.
- Responsible for Maker activities
- Provides reader's advisory and reference services
- Develop a highly-visible public relations program for adult services in the community
- Develop an engaging and attractive adult library collection through awareness of current adult literature
- Attend staff meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serve on committees
- Implement knowledge of current trends in adult services and programs
- Other duties as assigned

Education:
- Masters of Library Science
- One (1) year of customer service experience
- One (1) year working directly with adults
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
- Ability to work well with public and staff members
- Proficient with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
- Proficient with the Internet and Office 365
- Must use your personal mobile device for our Multifactor Authentication process

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This job typically operates in a professional office environment.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- At times, work can be performed in an outdoor environment and possible exposure to inclement weather or various temperature changes.
- There could be exposure to dangerous or aggressive/adverse populations.
Physical Demands:
- Some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
