UM Capital Region Medical Center, a member of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join the Cardiac Intensive Care Team. You will be part of a growing cardiac surgery team and with new complex PCI and Structural Heart programs.


Job Specifics:

  • Performs routine and expanded job descriptions as listed in the provider’s delegation agreement on file with the Maryland Board of Physicians of Maryland Board of Nursing. Under the direction of a physician, the APP will:
    • Work in conjunction with the cardiac surgeons and intensivists
    • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to patients requiring a variety of cardiac surgical interventions, including ventricular assist devices, heart-lung transplant, and other cardiac diagnoses.
    • Communicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families.
    • Obtain medical histories, examines patients, rounds daily, orders and interprets tests, makes initial diagnoses, and orders treatments.
    • Performs invasive procedures such as placement of Central, Arterial, Hemodialysis, and Pulmonary Artery Catheter line, the insertion and removal of chest tubes, Thoracentesis, and the removal of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump
    • Participate in the development of advanced evidence-based practices and support the educational programs.
  • Demonstrates competence and skill in required tasks and procedures
    • Demonstrates knowledge of and competency in required subspecialty.
    • Completes at least 50 hours of Category I CME every two years. Including 32 hours of trauma related CME.
    • Performs according to Maryland BOP standards and expanded job description procedural protocols.
  • Facilitates excellence in quality assurance and the delivery of patient care.
    • Provides optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines
    • Maintains a procedure complication rate less than the national average.
    • Contributes to cohesive group relations; uses open communication to resolve problems in and between departments.
    • Demonstrates commitment to professional department and organizational core values.

Qualifications

Current Maryland license in good standing as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician. National Certification within respective area of responsibility. NPI, DEA and CDS required. Basic Life Support-Health Care Provider(BLS-HCP) Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) required. Completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant program and appropriate certification including approved attestation on file at the appropriate Maryland Board.

3 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant providing direct care to patients preferably in a surgical program setting.

Other Required Attributes 1. Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty. 2. Ability to demonstrate competency in knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her populationspecific and age specific needs. 3. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters. Demonstrated/documented effective interpersonal skills. 4. Maintains updated hospital safety and other mandatory training. 5. Maintains updated immunizations as recommended per practice area. 6. Maintains all licensure, certification and credentialing and competencies required to perform the job and maintain clinical appointment.
