The Department of Natural Resources is hiring an Office of Great Waters Grants Coordinator in the Grants Specialist- Advanced classification within our Environmental Management Division. This position will be stationed at the Central office in Madison. There is an opportunity to telework for up to 60% of the workweek dependent on work needs.

Position Summary


This position has primary responsibility for administration of the Federal Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) grants for the Office of Great Waters (OGW) and overall grant management of these funds as well as other federal and state Great Lakes funds. OGW receives $5 to $10 million in incoming grants per year totaling approximately $50 million active grants consisting of nearly 100 active individual projects. Duties include, but not limited to: Provide coordination for the Great Lakes grant program for OGW by working with resource managers on funding needs for projects/initiatives in the Great Lake basin and aligning those needs with federal and state funding opportunities. Communicate with program managers, division leadership and Secretary’s office on upcoming and priority projects and funding. Coordinate with federal agencies, particularly with EPA – Great Lakes National Program office (GLNPO) Region V, and other partners on grant opportunities for Great Lakes projects and initiatives. Work with staff and partners on application process and submittals. Prepare financial documents and ensure grant applications meet federal and state requirements. Oversee implementation, deliverables, and grant reporting requirements. This position will work with over 60 different partners to pass through money to implement projects including Universities, Municipalities, Non-Profits, Counties, and other local partners. Sub-award agreements and/or contacts range from $5,000 to $10 million. This position will provide advanced-level administrative and financial support to the OGW program in central office and the regional offices as well as Environmental Management Division program administrators. This position is responsible for the Office of Great Waters state and federal grants, monitoring grant financial transactions and administration of financial resources related to these funding sources.

Salary Information


Starting pay is $34 - $37/ hour ($70,720 - $76,960 annually) for this position. Pay on appointment for current or former state employees is based on the State Compensation Plan.

This position is in the classification of Grants Specialist, Advanced and is in pay Schedule range 07-03. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details


This position is located in the Central Office in Madison at NR Building (GEF-2) with responsibilities statewide. Occasional travel within the state is required.

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for this position include experience in all of the following:

  • Grant writing, application, and administration- including the application process, project development, and reporting.
  • Financial data (budgeting or accounting)- including development, monitoring and evaluation
  • Computer software skills with financial spreadsheets and databases - including extracting, analyzing, manipulating, and presenting data (use of pivot tables, advanced formulas, etc.) and experience using finance or other pertinent system(s).

Best-qualified applicants will also have at least one of the following preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with policy and procedures related to grant administration.
  • Experience working with funding from a variety of sources- including private foundations, state, and federal.
