Position Summary:
The Instructional Designer is a full-time, 12-month, at-will/exempt position that reports to the Senior Instructional Designer in the Academic Instructional Technology Center. The position provides support for course development and design, including accessibility standards and best practices for online, hybrid, and face-to-face supplemental courses. The instructional designer works closely with core and adjunct faculty with online learning technologies including the learning management system (Blackboard) and course development tools (e.g. Kaltura Personal Capture, HTML authoring/editing tools).

Salary:

Salary range is $47,341 to $53,850 for the first year (12-month, full-time contract); excellent medical/dental and retirement benefits.

  • SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES): Provides direct course development and ongoing support to faculty to assure compliance with
  • Quality Matters design standards, universal design principles, academic assessment outcomes, ADA
  • Section 508 guidelines, and ASU standards and policies
  • Works with Subject Matter Experts to develop learning objectives and content to ensure content is current, accurate, and aligned with campus and department goals
  • Assists faculty in designing interactive, engaging learning content using institutionally supported technologies and software
  • Advises faculty on developing a consistent course format and presentation to provide students with a user-friendly online learning experience
  • Maintains and revises course materials as needed
  • Maintains current knowledge of emerging learning technologies and methods Provides technology troubleshooting assistance to both students and faculty as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, education technology, instructional design, or a closely related field, or three years of instructional design experience in higher education
  • Experience with online course development tools (HTML authoring/editing tools preferred)
  • Experience with a Learning Management System (Blackboard Learn preferred) Successful completion or willingness to successfully complete the Applying for the QM Rubric course through Quality Matters.
  • Experience with instructional design principles and pedagogical strategies to enhance learning
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently communicate orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, problem-solve, collaborate, and thrive in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at different stages while meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse staff in a variety of learning environments and promote inclusiveness through demonstrated experience with diverse communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegially with employees, students, and the community. This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.
