Essex Westford School District is seeking a full-time Alternative Program Director to lead the planning and implementation of the 3rd-8th grade alternative program. Responsibilities include providing leadership in the planning, implementing, and assessing the 3rd-8th grade alternative program. This position will serve as an effective member of the EWSD Support Services Team to assist and support the implementation of the program providing optimum educational opportunities for each student, facilitate administrative matters relating to faculty and staff in the alternative program, and effectively manage student and adult behaviors to ensure a safe and respectful learning and working environment for all. This position will serve at the direction of the Student Support Services Co-Directors.Candidates with experience working in another country and the ability to speak more than one language fluently, and/or Peace Corps. experience are encouraged to apply to help contribute to a diversity of thinking and grow our organizational practices.We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in School Administration or other appropriate discipline plus five years of proven success as a classroom teacher and educational leader (with a minimum of three years spent in successful secondary classroom teaching, the balance in an administrative or supervisory position), or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. Knowledge of current educational theory and practice.
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, a valid Vermont Professional Educators License with a 2-91/3-91 Endorsement.
  • Hold a valid Vermont drivers license is also required.
  • Promotes and models effective communication skills.
  • Holds high expectations for ALL students and is committed to ensuring ALL students learn and succeed regardless of socioeconomic or special education status.
  • Demonstrated vision-based and strategic planning and development, research and design, data-driven decision-making, and relationship building.
  • Experience and proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database programs required.
  • Effectively works with others, including those with opinions or beliefs different from their own; works through differences in a respectful manner.
  • Demonstrates shared leadership practices and empowers others.
