Fr. Alfred Center’s year-long, abstinence-based, work-structured program empowers men with no income or resources with the tools to overcome addiction, and the support to establish productive and healthy lives and engage in an integrated biopsychosocial treatment program. The holistic treatment offered through St. Anthony’s multiple services is rare in the field of recovery, and allows for immediate assessment and thoughtful resolution of clients’ medical, legal, vocational and educational needs, most or all of which have been affected profoundly by the cycles of poverty and addiction.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Sr. Program Manager and in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer, the Clinical Supervisor will create the curriculum of group counseling sessions, co-lead evidence based substance recovery groups, including relapse prevention and CBT/DBT oriented groups, and supervise unlicensed peer support and certified staff at the Fr. Alfred Center. The Clinical Supervisor will function as part of the substance abuse treatment team at the Fr. Alfred Center. The individual will demonstrate skills and ability in promoting excellent patient integrating primary care and behavioral health. Responsibilities include acting as a supervisor, behavioral health resource, and consultant to the FAC substance recovery team that includes certified addiction counselors, peer support staff and volunteers. The Clinical Supervisor will triage and manage mental health emergencies and crises. Approximately 60% to 70% administrative work vs. 30%-40% direct care hours. The Clinical Supervisor must adhere to county, state and federal privacy laws, standards of care and standards of ethics for residential substance programs, and adhere to FAC policies and procedures.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Supervises and provides clinical supervision for AOD Counselors.
- Evaluates staff performance and provides applicable coaching and training.
- Has knowledge of the AOD certification process and regularly monitors counseling staff progress towards achieving and maintaining valid AOD certification.
- Tracks all participant data including, but not limited to: personal info, contact info, counselor assignments, program process, and aftercare plans.
- Tracks the Counselors activities and productivity to ensure program optimization.
- Provides training, oversight, and monitoring of all documentation (ie: treatment plans, UAs, documentation) to ensure compliance with FAC policy and licensure standards.
- Supports the development of program policies and procedures.
- Supports the management of Counselors including hiring, orienting, performance reviews, and performance improvement planning.
- Develops the curriculum of evidence-based, psychoeducational and recovery oriented groups at the residence and oversees the management of this program.
- Conducts group intake assessments, documenting appropriately, and collaborates with team in developing/maintaining treatment plans, transition plans, health/recovery progress notes, and discharge plans; adhering to all State, Federal and County documentation standards and HIPAA regulations.
- Leads and supervises evidence-based, therapeutic group counseling sessions.
- Refers to internal and external mental health, medical and case management services as needed.
- Provides assessment and intervention for clients experiencing mental health crises and emergencies.
- Provides education and consultation to staff regarding trauma informed care, mental health conditions and crisis intervention strategies.
- Facilitates case review meetings with treatment team and participates in staff meetings, agency meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Exchanges information (within legal parameters) with other health and/or rehabilitative agencies to provide continuity of care for clients receiving services from more than one agency.
- Collaborates with residents’ physicians, individual therapists and other members of treatment team, as appropriate.
- Complies with Board requirements for license registration/renewal.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- The Clinical Supervisor shall be certified as an AOD Counselor, with a certifying organization recognized by DHCS. The position shall be AOD certified at a level that allows the Clinical Supervisor to provide clinical verification of internship hours for AOD counseling staff.
- Clinical Supervisor shall have knowledge of AOD programs and must meet one of the following requirements:
- A minimum of Licensure in the State of California as an MFT, LCSW or doctoral level clinical psychologist and two years’ experience providing AOD services; OR
- a Bachelor’s degree in a social service-related filed and three years’ experience providing AOD services, as certified AOD Counselor, at a responsibility no less than a Journey Level Counselor; OR
- An Associate’s degree in a social service-related field and 4 years’ experience providing AOD services, as certified AOD Counselor, at a responsibility no less than a Journey Level Counselor; OR
- 6 or more experience providing AOD services, as certified AOD Counselor, at a responsibility no less than a Journey Level Counselor.
- Experience and knowledge of substance abuse treatment programs
- Demonstrated experience in supervising and training AOD treatment staff
- Experienced in outpatient and residential substance abuse treatment as well as detox protocols and services.
- Knowledge of applicable substance and mental health laws and ethical standards
- Experience with co-occurring disorders
- Experience with implementation of treatment interventions for diverse populations
- Experience supervising multi-disciplinary, culturally diverse teams
- Ability to assess, advocate for and provide interventions and treatment to clients in a group setting.
- Familiarity with psychotropic medications and experience working with patients on such medication.
- Experience and skill in evaluating and treating adults with mental disorders and stress related to trauma, poverty, homelessness, criminal history and immigration history.
- Ability to work in a residential substance program environment and comfortable with 12-step and other models of recovery.
- Professional, punctual, flexible and reliable, ability to handle with integrity, sensitive information in a confidential manner.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills desired.
- Intermediate computer skills
- Familiarity with the use of electronic medical record software.
