THE ROLE: The Application Specialist- Treatment Aftermarket M&C will be responsible for performing a diversified range of technical and commercial support functions for pre and post sales activities within the Treatment Aftermarket Sales & Service group – specifically deliver technical support for all Xylem branded M&C products (SCADA, Controllers, PLCs, VFDs, Level Sensors and a variety of telemetry, instrumentation, and system intelligence platforms. In this role, the incumbent will also provide technical support by conducting training seminars and providing phone and onsite support. Assist Field and Office staff with Application and Specification review:
- Develop technical depth and understanding of Xylem product and application knowledge.
- Provide Aftermarket rental, replacement and retrofit product and service selections and conversion kits and develop related quotations as necessary.
- Support to Xylem Aftermarket Territory Managers, Xylem Direct Sales roles, Channel Partners, Equipment Owners, and/or other external customers by providing pre- through post-sales technical and commercial support with activities including: basic level Application Engineering support to external and internal customers with design and proposal of our aftermarket portfolio of products and services; and related follow up work that includes product and services selection, solicitation of vendor quotes, and customer proposal development.
- Respond timely to internal and external customer inquiries (technical requests, order status/updates, product availability, pricing, etc.) and/or resolve customer issues and other requests for information and/or proactively notify customers about order status and other changes.
- Daily utilization of Customer Relationship Management (CRM), quotation and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools to input new data and maintain existing data to current status to support internal and external customer interactions and needs.
- Conduct equipment owner touch calls as necessary to support outside sales roles by investigating potential opportunities and effectively communicate the value proposition of Xylem’s organizational support and aftermarket product and service capabilities.
- Decipher technical specifications and provide standard product solution wherever possible. Utilize existing manuals and application guides to determine the ability to deliver complete Xylem branded solutions.
- Assist field staff by presenting class room style training sessions on standard product and retrofit options assortment. Work with Marketing to identify gaps in current product knowledge to ensure strategic growth objectives are met.
- Perform the required administrative tasks associated with the Engineering position.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Fulfill light project coordination for equipment upgrades and refurbishments including a full range of support from oversight of schedule and communication with all related Xylem departments and external customer and may include update of technical manuals, order execution and follow-up based on quotation, sales agreements, contract specifications.
- Participate in engineering calls, jobsite startups & troubleshooting, and external customer product education as needed.
- Handling overflow from other sales support positions at local office as necessary, including but not limited to tasks such as technical support, quotations, phone handling, project technical manuals, and order fulfillment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
- Either Technical degree in Instrumentation & Controls Technology or 10+ years of applicable industrial controls application experience required. Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Must have strong knowledge of process instrumentation, PLCs, telemetry, distributed control networks and industry standard communications protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
- VBSS Greenbelt is preferred
- Familiarity with product and service selection tools
- An in-depth understanding of CRM, quotation and ERP order entry tools and the ability to navigate the systems effectively and efficiently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Must be highly motivated with strong communications skills and the ability to work independently.
DAY IN THE LIFE:
In this role the working environment will be both in office and at the shop or field sites where exposure to pipes, electrical equipment, and operating machinery is to be expected. The physical demands of the role include sitting, standing, walking, and light lifting of 20-45 pounds. The standard weekly job hours are 8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday; travel of up to 25% can be expected.
