BASIC FUNCTION :

In the area of Club Sports:
Assist the Director/Associate Director in the development and execution of all aspects/functions of the Club Sports and Intramural Sports Program with a focus on but not limited to financial management and sustainability, conflict management, human resource management, competitive/practice schedules, facility scheduling, travel coordination, safety and risk mitigation, insurance matters, emergency action protocol, student recruitment & retention, program evaluation, social media, marketing and branding, working knowledge and oversight of NGB’s league/sports compliance, and monitor and inventory of equipment.
Adhere to Student Senate policies, anticipate, and identify issues and areas of improvement, and produce viable and logical solutions. Serve as a resource and advocate for all program area employees and participants.
In collaboration with others , coordinate all evening and weekend Club Sports practices, competition, fundraising, and special events.
Assess and evaluate the club sports programs to determine overall effectiveness and satisfaction. Make recommendations and implement changes based on best practices, if appropriate.
Provide leadership in planning for future expansion of club sports programs and facilities as demands require and within available resources. Provide action plans to benefit the Club Sports program.
Responsible for keeping up to date on evolving issues within club sports and campus recreation as needed.
Assist the Director and Senior Leadership Team in analyzing and providing input on identifying and resolving program and department-wide issues.
Liaise with URI Alumni Engagement staff to plan events including alumni games, receptions, golf tournaments, etc.
Lead in the development to effectively identify, promote, engage, solicit, and steward potential donors and alumni development. Spearhead fundraising initiatives. Attend various club sports, alumni, and campus functions to develop a familiarity with the culture at URI. Appropriately participate in the design and execution of donor/prospect programs and events.
Coordinate all conduct and reinstatement meetings for the Competitive Sports program; Exercise independent judgment to determine the outcome of all meetings, including participant and club eligibility and sanctions.
Evaluate Club Sports’ Coaches’ performance in collaboration with Student Team Leaders and department senior leadership.
Provide ethical leadership, resolution, and strategic planning to the Club Sports and Intramural Council (CSIC), and the Student Executive Board responsible for oversight of club sports operational policies and procedures, including disciplinary procedures, club discipline matters, by-laws review and update, and adherence to applicable university regulations. Engage in leadership/teambuilding initiatives with student leaders.
In the area of Intramurals:
Assess and evaluate the intramural sports programs to determine overall effectiveness and satisfaction. Make recommendations and implement changes based on best practices, if appropriate.
Work collaboratively and provide leadership in planning for future expansion of Intramural Sports programs and facilities as demands require and within available resources. Provide action plans to benefit the Intramural Sports program.
Provide key leadership, make decisions, and provide direct supervision and direction to others in the development and management of a comprehensive Intramural Sports program, including traditional and non-traditional sports, leagues, international programs, Special Olympics Project Unify programs, and other industry trends.
Responsible for keeping up to date on evolving issues within intramural sports and campus recreation as needed.
Lead in the development, implementation, and review of all sports rules, regulations, and policies governing the intramural sports program. Be knowledgeable on current standards and trends regarding sports, sports rules, guidelines, and their application.
Oversee disciplinary actions involving intramural sports participants and staff.
Ensure the maintenance of fields/courts, including field painting and submitting facility requests. Ensure proper enforcement of all policies and procedures, including all registration forms, waivers & releases, score sheets, participation records, facility access, etc.
In the area of Administration:
Prepare reports and other analytical data and research promptly and professionally.
Analyze engagement data, current industry trends, analytics, and research; to drive and support decision-making and champion best practices.
Assist the Director and senior leadership team with program and department assessment, evaluation, and problem-solving, to make decisions and implement necessary changes.

In collaboration with the Director and Associate Director of Campus Recreation, establish and negotiate rental fees for off-site practices/competitions.
Work in conjunction with the Director/Associate Director to collaborate with the URI Foundation, the Division of Student Affairs, Student Senate, and the Alumni Engagement Office to marshal the resources necessary to be successful. Foster and increase alumni engagement through internal and external events. Seek ways to generate financial support through fundraising efforts to create new revenue streams.
Provide strong oversight for budget management of multiple budgets and accounts. Ensure the appropriate administrative responsibilities of financial accountability, fiscal forecasting, expense/revenue reporting, payroll, purchasing and procurement, cash collection, salary monitoring, management of URI Foundation Endowments, scholarships, and fundraising, and abide by university/department policies and procedures.
Develop an evaluation process to include short- and long-term measurable program goals and objectives.
In the area of Personnel Management:
Responsible for the recruitment, selection, employee contract development, onboarding, scheduling, training, payroll administration, and evaluations of a diverse staff, including Graduate Assistant(s), student employees, professional staff, temporary workers, Internal Club Sports Coaches, etc. Coordinate meetings, formulate and revise onboarding training, and update/revise training materials and operational manuals.
Provide strategic supervision, leadership, and professional development for the Coordinator of Club Sports, Coordinator of Intramural Sports, Graduate Assistant(s), Internal Club Sport Coaches, volunteer Coaches, Fiscal Clerk, and temporary workers including but not limited to student office assistant, game managers, Field Marshall, Team Leaders, and CSIC Members and the Executive Board. Conduct staff meetings, as needed, to enhance communications, share ideas, and assess the success and needs of the staff/coaches.
Provide part-time and full-time staff with technical and leadership training and professional support.
In the area of Operations:
Support Campus Recreation professional staff in work allocation, training, promotion, and enforcement of departmental internal policies, procedures, and data-based decision-making.
Provide excellent customer service. Evaluate the effectiveness and satisfaction of overall programs and services.
Collaborate with the URI Campus Recreation marketing team to develop marketing strategies for intramural sports and club sports promotional efforts. Assist with maintaining and updating the Campus Recreation Intramural Sports and Club Sports websites as needed.
Assist with the operations, expansion, and maintenance upkeep for all current and future on- and off-campus Campus Recreation facilities and spaces including but not limited to the Arrigan Memorial Sailing Pavilion, Campanella Rowing Center, Mackal Field House, Recreation Fields, Sand Volleyball Courts, and Keaney Gymnasium. Liaise with the outside management firm for the Bradford R. Boss Ice Arena.
Represent Campus Recreation Department and serve on various Student Affairs and University committees. Attend departmental, divisional, and University meetings as assigned.
Develop and implement ongoing training programs, and required University policies and procedures relating to the successful management of the Club Sports program to include, but not limited to Risk Management (i.e., concession management, athletic trainers, etc.), travel arrangements, fundraising protocol, Safe Sports, Bystander Intervention, Hazing Prevention, Alcohol Education, Title IX, FERPA, Health Services, Counseling and Academic Resources, CPR/AED, First Aid training, etc.
Work in collaboration with full-time recreation staff to effectively meet the department’s mission, values, and goals to continue efforts that will enhance recreational opportunities for our students and university community and adapt to changes in the work environment.
