Position Summary: Responsible for the overall and day-to-day management of the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Crisis Stabilization Center (CSC) nursing department to include quality of services, staff hiring and termination, staff training and supervision, development of policies and procedures related to SUD services, development of operational protocols for SUD services, taking inventory and ordering medical supplies, and delegation of tasks among nurses. Responsible for leading the nursing team, as well as providing direct client care. Provides 24/7 on-call support to the CSC. Full time employment with 32 hours of onsite work per week.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Assesses, monitors, and cares for clients admitted to the CSC
- Assists in training/orientation of new nursing staff and ongoing training of existing nursing staff by organizing seminars/courses to educate staff and introducing new procedures and protocols
- Assists in the ongoing development and modification of policies and procedures related to program services
- Evaluates staff performance and provides corrective measures if necessary
- Provides weekly supervision to all nursing staff
- Communicates with the leadership team regarding nurse performance, staff issues, and changes to treatment protocols
- Maintains scheduling for all employed nursing staff by monitoring the calendar to minimize any gaps in coverage, assisting with securing any needed coverage, and communicating any schedule changes/concerns to the Clinical Program Manager SUD Services.
- Regularly assesses inventory of medications and medical supplies and orders medications/medical supplies as needed
- Ensures storage of medication in compliance with all requirements and regulations
- Provides quality assurance by ensuring accurate and clear documentation of any nursing services
- Remains calm under pressure and is able to quickly and effectively delegate staff responsibilities during busy shifts and crisis situations
- Coordinates with other nurses and SUD staff to determine organized measures to best care for clients
- Collaborates with the Clinical Program Manager SUD Services, Medical Director, Nurse Practitioners, and others on the leadership team to ensure that SUD staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to provide services that are client-driven, culturally competent, strengths-based, and outcomes-focused
- Meets with leadership staff regularly to discuss program operations, and keeps the Assistant Director of Crisis Services informed of any program needs, emergency situations, or unusual incidents
- Prepares documentation for accreditation and licensure, is aware of all standards to remain in compliance with quality assurance, and keeps the program in compliance with all accreditation/licensure requirements
- Provides support with facilitation of team meetings as requested
- Provides on-call support to the SUD team by being available via telephone 24/7 for nursing consult, schedule changes, and any time-sensitive program needs
- Manage performance improvement processes for programs/operations that are directly supervised including preparation of annual Performance Improvement Plans and Performance Analyses.
- Administrative duties: Prepares monthly and quarterly reports, participates in the Leadership Team for the agency, ensures accurate and clear documentation of clinical services, participates in grant writing and reporting, adheres to all agency required documentation for leave time, absences, travel, etc., keeps the Director of Clinical and Crisis Services informed of program needs, emergency situations, and unusual incidents.
- Accreditation duties: Prepares documentation for accreditation for all agencies, aware of all standards and compliance with quality assurance, keeps agency in compliance with all accreditation agency requirements.
- Community Outreach: Includes participation on community meetings or task forces as requested by the Director of Clinical and Crisis Services, collaborates effectively with funders and community partners, makes presentations to community groups, provides training to partners and community groups, participates in local and statewide crisis and behavioral health networks.
- Provides the following services of a nurse in addition to the above leadership responsibilities:
- Admits clients to the CSC and completes necessary documentation
- Assesses, plans, and provides nursing care to clients
- Communicates with the on-call prescriber to arrange for prescribing of medication and consult about medical issues
- Administers medications prescribed by the CSC prescriber
- Arranges for further medical attention when necessary
- Completes COWS/CIWA and vital sign checks with clients in the CSC, including pulse, blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen saturation
- Partners with other behavioral health staff to provide a range of services to admitted clients, including screening, assessment, brief intervention, referral to treatment, removing barriers to treatment, harm reduction counseling, withdrawal management services, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) education, safety assessment/planning, treatment planning, discharge planning, and follow-up services
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Participates in management/leadership meetings
- Other duties as assigned, required or needed
- Agency-Wide Responsibilities:
- Participates in supervision, in-service training, and staff meetings
- Maintains good working relationships with coworkers and positively contributes to group morale
- Completes all administrative duties including time sheets, leave requests, etc.
- Participates in special meetings, committees, or special projects as needed
- Uses appropriate channels of communication to resolve conflicts with other staff
- Interacts with staff, clients, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner
Education and Experience:
- Active, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse at the bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree level
- A minimum of 3 years of experience working with individuals with mental health issues and/or substance use disorders
- A minimum of 2 years of supervisory/management experience in the field of nursing
- Preferred experience in a community setting
- Possession of a valid Maryland driver’s license required
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Presentation/training skills including small and large group presentations and trainings
- Ability to function successfully in an environment requiring immediate response to urgent situations
- Spontaneous supervision of staff in real-time
- Knowledge of and familiarity with local and statewide community resources
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Computer skills with various software and the internet
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
Work Conditions:
- A minimum of 32 hours of onsite work per week
- Availability to come onsite if there is a gap in nursing coverage and the CSC has clients in need of nursing services
- On-call 24/7 to provide medical consult and support to the CSC and leadership team
- Use of personal vehicle for work-related activities (reimbursable mileage)
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard
- Must be able to lift 25lbs
