Assistant Head of School: St. Christopher’s by-the-Sea Montessori School

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Head of School will collaborate with the Head of School in running the day-to-day operations of the school including academics, staff leadership, operations and student culture.

They are an integral member of the school leadership team, working side-by-side with the Head of

School, the Rector, staff and families to ensure that the school lives out its mission.

Academics

● Provide leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including standards aligned curriculum and assessments.

● Responsible for collecting, analyzing and using student performance data to inform planning.

● Conduct ongoing standards-aligned assessment of student learning, and works with the teachers and specialists to meet the needs of every student, including those with special needs.

Culture

● Implement a positive school culture where all feel respected and valued.

● Design and implement culture systems, priorities, and initiatives, and progress monitor outcomes.

● Create a positive, healthy school culture for students and teachers so that we live out the

Montessori approach to “Grace and Courtesy.”

● Develop school-wide proactive and responsive procedures and routines including collecting, tracking and analyzing key culture data.

● Lead and drive the vision for proactive and responsive family communication and engagement.

Staff Supervision

● Build strong staff teams characterized by trust, investment in goals, and ownership.

● Develop a culture of professional growth according to the needs of each individual’s goals.

● Assist in the recruitment and selection of staff, maintenance of employee personnel files, corrective action, and other human resource issues.

Operations

● Coordinate the collection, analysis and reporting of student and staff attendance data with

Human Resources.

● Work alongside the facilities staff in the maintenance of the physical plant.

● Direct the management of transportation including arrival, dismissal and off-campus trips.

● Collaborate with teachers and the finance team in the purchasing of instructional materials.

● Design and implement the programming of student schedules and specialists.

● Assist in collecting data in preparation for accreditation.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $75,000-80,000 based on qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

● Minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience.

● Familiarity with Montessori philosophy, curriculum and assessments.

● Familiarity with standards, and aligned tools, assessments.

● Experience creating an inclusive environment that honors students of all backgrounds and learning approaches.

● Evidence of the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.

● Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS

● Florida Certification in Educational Leadership or School Principal.

● Knowledge of the NAEYC Accreditation Process

● Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related field.

● Familiarity with the Florida Council of Independent Schools.

● At least two years of coaching and/or supervision of instructional staff.

● Certification in Montessori pedagogy.
