Job description

Assistant Mechanical Designer will perform various phases of planning, proposal preparation technical layout, analytical designs, and preparation of construction drawings as part of a project team. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients. The following are the expectations for the position:

  • Competent utilization and practical understanding of Autodesk’s AutoCAD is required.
  • Understanding and practical experience with MicroStation, Plant 3D, Smartplant 3D, Navisworks, Recap, Bluebeam or Acrobat, and Raster Design is a plus.
  • Support and perform technical design for mechanical engineering related projects requiring general arrangements, piping plans and isometrics, piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Develop drawings for production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Execute variety of mechanical design assignments for general arrangements, piping plans and isometrics, piping and instrument diagrams, and associated details using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components, and refining rough sketches.
  • Execute changes to designs or sketches and mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Analyze and understand reports, vendor drawings, cut sheets, existing design drawings.
  • Responsible for incorporating appropriate design codes and specifications related to design requirements meeting generally accepted practices for mechanical engineering design.
  • Generate or review design drawings for quality assurance within communicated scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Responsible for revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information storage in a logical and well-structured manner in accordance with communicated client standards.
  • Competent understand and utilization of Microsoft Office products to support calculations, development of design deliverables, and quantity calculations are required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in drafting technology. Minimum of 5 years previous drafting experience. Related consulting experience preferred. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member. Proficient in at least one type of CAD system and capable of working in other software packages when necessary. Routinely uses higher-level commands, timesaving programs and routines.
