Brief Summary of Job Description
The Teacher Education department is seeking a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure-track) to teach in the Transitional Certification Program, including Middle Level (5-9) and Secondary (6-12) pedagogy, classroom management, lesson/unit planning, human relations, instructional strategies, exceptionalities, assessment, and adolescent development, among other topics. This position is also responsible for program development, and the recruitment and retention of students.
Job Duties
Develop and teach graduate courses, effectively advise Transitional Certification Program students, work closely with the UNK Educator Certification Office, stay current on NDE standards and rules for teacher certification, serve on departmental, college, and university committees, and collaborate with education professionals within and outside of public school settings across the state.
Required Qualifications
Must be eligible for a faculty position at the assistant/associate professor level—tenure-track; earned a doctorate in Teacher Education or related field (ABD’s considered, but the degree must be conferred within 6 months from the first contractual day); have a minimum of three years of successful Grades 5-12 teaching; and have, or have held, teacher certification in Secondary Education, or a related endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
Practicum supervision experience with non-traditional teacher candidates. Relevant and successful university teaching, specifically in distance learning and online course delivery methods. Experience/expertise with culturally sustaining pedagogies and practices, recruitment/retention of non-traditional students, graduate-level teaching, CAEP accreditation, distinguished teaching, and demonstrated research abilities. Experience with administration or management, and interdisciplinary collaboration in service and research.
