Job Summary
The Department of History and Geography at Columbus State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in pre-1877 U.S. History. The successful candidate will join a department that is committed to public engagement; that cultivates meaningful partnerships with local institutions, including the National Infantry Museum, the Columbus Museum, and the National Civil War Naval Museum; and that is stewarding a growing, interdisciplinary digital humanities program. The start date for this position is August 1, 2023.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- The successful candidate will teach both introductory survey courses (with special attention to the HIST 2111 U.S. History to 1865 survey) and advanced undergraduate and graduate history courses each semester.
- 4/4 teaching load.
- Mentoring and advising students.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D in American History and demonstrate potential for continued professional development, scholarship, and community engagement. Strong ABD candidates will be considered, but degree must be in hand by the start date. The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration, work continuously to improve history education, and engage in practices that support the University's focus on student engagement and active learning.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who have University teaching experience and experience in Digital Humanities.

Applications for part-time and full-time faculty positions must include transcripts of all academic work, and official transcripts must be presented prior to campus visit if selected for interview. Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements, in particular a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
