Summary Job Description:

The Assistant Residential Manager for our OPWDD-funded Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRAs) is an essential position and is responsible for assisting the Residential Manager in the daily operations of 2 to 3 residential programs. The Assistant Manager has both administrative and direct support roles and responsibilities, The Assistant Manager will work with the Residential Manager to supervise, lead and develop a competent and professional workforce, ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and maintain a safe, therapeutic and person-centered environment for the people we support.


Principal Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health and safety as well as the protective oversight of all individuals and staff of assigned programs.
  • Respond to on-call emergencies and staffing issues. Utilize an agency phone for on-call access.
  • Provide direct support and be the leader on shift at all times.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of all aspects of qualitative and regulatory compliant programming within the residence.
  • Coordinate staff schedules, develop and supervise an effective and professional team.
  • Serve as a professional role model for individuals and staff.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all Federal, State and Local governing bodies.
  • Ensure Staff Action Plan/Residential Habilitation plans are implemented, and data is documented by DSP staff into the agency’s EMR.
  • Develop, implement and monitor service plans/goals for all individuals living in the residence and ensure timely submission of required paperwork.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with all professional members of the individual’s interdisciplinary team (Nurse, BIS, clinicians, colleague providers, Care Coordinator, etc.)
  • Coordinate recreational activities that are age appropriate and of interest to the individuals supported.
  • Communicate with families, day programs, Care Managers, clinicians and other supports to ensure services are integrated and appropriate.
  • Maintain positive relationships with community and neighbors, serve as a professional liaison between the local community and the larger agency.
  • Monitor and reconcile the personal allowance and financial accounts of individuals.
  • Assist in the oversight and reporting of any employee relations and staff disciplinary concerns.
  • Assist in supervising dietary and housekeeping needs. Ensure proper purchasing, maintenance, fleet safety, bookkeeping, etc.
  • Cooperatively and effectively work with other departments such as Finance, Human Resources, Quality Assurance, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidates with a High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 1 year of experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities may be considered.
  • Knowledge of OPWDD service delivery system and regulations a plus.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and good driving record is required.
  • Clearance through state mandated Background/Fingerprint Check(s) required.
  • Must maintain certifications in Strategies in Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP), Approved Medication Administration Personnel (AMAP) and CPR.
  • Commitment to company values and adherence to policies is expected.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and/or senior management.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position requires travel between 2 to 3 residential programs located in Queens or Nassau County (our one Nassau County IRA is located very close the Queens border).
  • Travel to Little Flower administrative offices for meetings, trainings, etc. is also required.
