Salary: $2,294.48 - $2,340.37 semi-monthly *Salary may be commensurate of education and/or experience
Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, and will be located at Roaring River State Park (12716 FR 2239 Cassville, MO 65625) and Big Sugar Creek State Park (Pineville, MO). Schedule will be 40 hours a week (Five 8 hour days per week with ½ hour lunch break). Work shifts will vary during the on season (March through October) and will require working evenings and weekends. During the off season (November through February) work shifts will be 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. with some weekends required.

Roaring River is one of three trout parks in Missouri and is known for its cave spring, which pumps out 20 million gallons of 55 degree spring water daily. The mission of the park system is to preserve and interpret the states most outstanding natural landscapes and cultural landmarks and provide outstanding recreational opportunities compatible with those resources.
What you’ll do:
- Assist in directing the overall operation and maintenance of Roaring River and Big Sugar Creek State Park, including campgrounds, day use areas, trail network, small maintenance and repair projects, visitor service functions, and organized group camps.
- Oversee the work and behavior of various seasonal, volunteer, and full-time staff, and mentoring and coaching staff as well.
- Participate in planning and directing natural and/or cultural history interpretation, resource management, and research for Roaring River and Big Sugar Creek State Parks.
- Planning and coordinating special events, group outings, and special program requests with a variety of stakeholders.
- Assist in resource stewardship activities.
- Ability to develop budget and project recommendations and perform administrative functions including revenue and procurement.
- Respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, disturbances, natural disasters, and any other significant events within the park.
- Act in the absence of the Park Superintendent and independently make sound decisions and direct staff as needed.
- Successfully train park staff and volunteers in the RS2 computer system, park rules and regulations, as well as camping business rules.
- Conduct weekly playground inspections and keep signed inspection forms accessible at the park office.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which can include: Park Management, Parks and Recreation, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Botany, Biology, Natural Sciences, Business of Public Administration or related field AND Four or more years of supervision and participation in interpretation, preservation, protection, maintenance and enhancement of state parks and historic sites or closely related field (substitutions may be allowed)
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license
- Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, special events, evenings, and split shifts. Must work weekends during on-season (March through October)
- Available to participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars requiring some overnight stays
- Must be able to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift 25 pounds
- Must pass S-190 Wildland Fire Training within six months of hire
- Ability to operate and use computers; familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
