Job description

The Whitney Museum of American Art is seeking a full-time Assistant to K-12 Initiatives & Youth Learning. Existing within the Social Impact division, this position will provide support in the planning and implementation of all aspects of the K-12 programs and the Museum’s renowned Youth Insights (YI) teen programs, both in-person and virtually.
K-12 programs use works of art in the Whitney’s collection and exhibitions to create a forum for ideas, debate, and exchange. Programs at the Museum and in the classroom offer students and teachers opportunities to explore American art while learning from artists and each other. Guided Visits and Online Lessons introduce students to the Museum’s collection and exhibitions through close looking activities, while Guided Visit +Studio programs incorporate an art workshop into the experience. The Whitney also works with a small number of New York City schools to create long-term School Partnerships with entire school communities, including administrators, teachers, students, and families.
Teen programs at the Whitney offer NYC high school students the opportunity to discuss art critically, think creatively, and make art with contemporary artists, museum Educators, and their peers. The semester-long program, YI Artists, introduces students to the Whitney’s current exhibitions, collection, and artists, while the year-long internship, YI Leaders, provides the opportunity for students to organize and support public programs and events for high school students. Offered in the summer, YI Introductions provides experiences at the Whitney for high school students who are English Language Learners and YI Arts Careers exposes youth to professional career paths in the artworld. Hosted on select Fridays, our free Open Studio for Teens drop-in program provides teens the opportunities to work closely with contemporary artists to create and learn new art making techniques.
