We are looking for an Automation Engineer (Process Controls) to support and maintain our manufacturing process improvements.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Automation Engineer (Process Controls) will report to the Maintenance and Facilities Engineering Manager. This position provides technical engineering services with some product management to support Maintenance and Production. This position will collaborate with Maintenance Supervisors, Maintenance Team Leads, Facilities Engineers, and various other departments to execute on planned jobs, unplanned jobs, equipment reliability, and capital project improvements.

Essential Functions :

This is a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and is not all inclusive. Incumbent(s) may and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Focus on overall safety of facilities equipment and processes including responsibility and oversight of EHS policies.
  • Maintains a safe and organized workstation and follows all company policy, safety and procedures.
  • Manage the electrical and controls scope of process improvement, capital expansion, and obsolescence mitigation projects.
  • Coordinate all phases of assigned projects from concept, scope development, written specifications, related bid meetings, equipment and facilities engineering/design, manufacturing, and installation through final start-up, acceptance and project closure.
  • Assist production and maintenance with various types of equipment and process issues from an engineering perspective with key emphasis on maintaining and improving reliability of systems with specialized technical expertise in the application and use of automated technology for plant facilities and processes.
  • Provide a higher-level support for all PLC, HMI, and Robotic Systems. Familiarity with Rockwell Automation PLC and SCADA systems. (RSLogix/Studio5000 and FactoryTalk View Studio)
  • Familiarity with Ignition SCADA and OEE systems.
  • Programming support for all PLC/Scada/Database Systems.
  • Maintain accurate records for all automation programs and all changes to these systems.
  • Propose and execute improvements to existing automation systems and processes.
  • Oversee contractor work and compliance to Howmet, Federal/State Environmental, Health, and Safety policies.
  • General knowledge of networking principles.
  • Regular on-site attendance is an essential function of this position.

Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Speaking — Talking to others to convey information effectively.
Troubleshooting — Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
Basic functions of Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Demands:

Work Location/Environmental Requirements :

Nickel and titanium manufacturing facility. Exposure to: moving mechanical parts; wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold, extreme heat, vibration; loud noise level.


Basic Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 5 years in a PLC Programming role (Manufacturing Environment) working with PLC’s, HMI’s, Database Systems, and electrical systems such as power distribution.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with industrial robots in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with Allen Bradley PLC programming, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S> person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S> Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation/Control Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience working in a Manufacturing Environment in a Controls/Automation position.
  • Experience with Project Management in a team-based environment.
  • Capable of programming Allen Bradley/ControlLogix/RSLogix PLC Systems.
  • Experience programming various RedLion HMIs.
  • Experience with programming GE iFix, FactoryTalk, and Ignition Scada Systems.
  • Knowledge of standard electrical safety requirements.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD/Inventor or Solidworks.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Distribution Systems under 600V.
