Job description

The City of Wauseon is hiring for the position of Auxiliary Police Officer.

Under general supervision of the shift supervisor, auxiliary officers will patrol the city in order to protect residents and their property; respond to calls for assistance; conduct investigations of accidents, crime scenes, or criminal activity occurring within the city limits; arrest suspected criminals; prepare reports and other documentation.

Qualifications: Completion of secondary education (high school or GED); or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; must meet any legally established age limitations; must qualify for and maintain insurability under the city’s vehicle insurance policy; must successfully complete all medical, physical, agility, drug, and/or psychological examinations required by the city; must not have any felony convictions or have plead guilty to a felony.

Licensure or Certification Requirements: Most possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license without record of suspension of revocation in any state; must be certified as an Ohio Peace Officer; must obtain LEADS and OHLEG certification by end of probationary period; must qualify annually with firearm; and any other licensure required.

Potential candidates will be required to complete a background check, which may include a polygraph examination.
