JOB PURPOSE:
Performs centrifugal casting and flat pouring (static) of heated Babbitt material on a variety of backing materials. Follows all company established processes and documentation.
As the Babbitt Processing Technician, the team member will:
- Daily Follows Company established processes for flat pouring of Babbitt on a variety of backing materials. Performs setup and production run. Maintains daily log of all attributes of the Babbitt operation (forms to be supplied by QA & Manufacturing Engineering).
- Daily Follows Company established processes for flat pouring of Babbitt on a variety of backing materials. Performs preheating and degassing of material. Maintains proper tin and Babbitt inventor levels and documentation.
- Follow all safety instructions and procedures. Complies with all safety requirements for pouring and casting of liquid metals. Wears all PPE required to perform the job in the safest manner possible and in accordance with company policy. Cleans Babbitted components before moving them to the next operation.
- Maintains proper Work Center cleanliness, orderliness and controls.
- Performs Babbitt repairs and patching as required, uses oxy-fuel and TIG welding. Contributes in continuous improvement with department objectives. Completes special projects and other duties as assigned. Able to design and fabricate molds for Babbitt.
- Ability to create forms as needed for static pour. Contributes in continuous improvement with department objectives. Completes special projects, performs pilot or prove-out processes and other duties as assigned.
- Able to operate Bridgeport, Lathes and bending machines as required as it relates to the Babbitt process.
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills:
Language: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to read, interpret drawings and perform work based on written documentation.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
