Job description

Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, current educational research especially in the field of music education. basic understanding, and knowledge of current technology. Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles in music. Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents and others. Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness. Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze assessment results and prescribe actions for improvement. Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn. Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others.

At Forest Park Middle School

  • Teach exploratory/introductory instrumental music
  • Teach band class
  • Organize and provide fall, winter, and spring concerts and performances
  • Conduct rehearsals and performances demonstrating understanding of differences in style among various types of music
  • Present performances of high musical quality for the school and community in which groups are well-disciplined and make a good appearance
  • Organize and provide a summer band camp
  • Conduct practice one morning a week for advanced level band (part of extra duty stipend)

For Band at Field-Stevenson School (a stipend will be provided for classes held after school)

  • Organize and provide fall, winter, and spring concerts and performances
  • Conduct rehearsals and performances demonstrating understanding of differences in style among various types of music
  • Present performances of high musical quality for the school and community in which groups are well-disciplined and make a good appearance

Instruction:

  • Plan and implement a balanced music program to include music appreciation, harmony, theory, instrumental music, and the historical and cultural aspects of music
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
  • Conduct ongoing assessments for and of students’ learning and achievements
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, emotional, and intellectual development of students
  • Manage materials and equipment effectively
  • Prepare teaching outline for course of study following state curriculum guidelines
  • Collaborate with colleagues

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university
  • Valid Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with Music K-12 Endorsement

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $48,000.00 per year
