Position Description
Position: Banquets Captain
Department: Food & Beverage
Status: Full-time
Reports to: Events Operations Manager & Director of Events
Position Summary:
The Banquets Captain works closely with the Banquet Manager, Sales Department and the Kitchen to ensure that all events are completed as contracted. They supervise Banquet Servers and Bartenders to maintain the high-level of service our guests expect. Nights and weekends required.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- On-site work required
- Must be available mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays; flexible schedule required
- Required to be available 30+ hours a week
- Greet group contacts and confirm timing, AV needs, set etc.
- Monitor BEO's daily and adjust schedule as needed- communicate with Mgr.
- Complete and turn in Banquet Tickets.
- Monitor & Report Counts for Consumable Items & Actual Head Counts for Meals
- Complete Captain Reports as needed and distribute
- Assign duties and sections for Banquet staff. Hold staff to Cliffs' standards of excellence.
- Train new Banquet Staff.
- Maintain Inventory Quality and Communicate needs quickly to management.
- Work with the Kitchen to maintain food quality and that meals are ready as stated on BEO's- timing as well
- Communicate with other departments to ensure guest satisfaction (i.e. Maintenance and Housekeeping)
- Order, Confirm, and Return linen as needed in a timely manner-confirm counts in and out
- Oversee events and room sets
- Knowledge of all aspects of banquets- from serving a function, set up ceremony or classroom style, AV equipment, anticipate and prioritize
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand/walk continuously for the duration of the shift (eight hours).
- Ability to lift objects (under 60 pounds).
- Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and or 50 lbs. frequently and/or 20 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push or pull objects
- Ability to lift trays (under 40 pounds).
- Ability to work in stressful situations.
- Ability to work indoors & outdoors
Education, Experience, Skills:
- Working knowledge of guest services in a luxury hotel setting.
- Knowledge of banquets services and Food & Beverage experience
- 1-2 years in Food & Beverage setting preferred
- 1-2 years Management Experience preferred
- Must have valid Food Handlers certification, and Responsible Beverage Service certified
- Excellent command of English language
- Ability to work with and manage people effectively
- Computer and Math skills
- Ability to multitask and work in mentally demanding situations
