Job Title: Beardstender (Root Cellar)

Reports to: Root Cellar Lead

About Beards Brewery:

Beards Brewery is located in the scenic gaslight district of downtown Petoskey, where we operate our small 1bbl (31 gallon) pilot brew house and have a tap room/restaurant open to the public. We additionally have a 15bbl (465 gallon) production brew house in Charlevoix where we keg and can our beers to meet our growing demand at our pub location as well as distribution to bars and restaurants within Michigan.

Job Description:

***As of 2023, Beardstenders are no longer paid with tip-based wages. This is an hourly paying position designed to provide year round job-security and consistent pay as well as work hours.***

Our Beardstenders play an integral role in providing an excellent experience for our brewery guests. The Root Cellar is an exciting new addition to Beards where we really focus on the customer experience by providing excellent beer, customer service, live music, and entertainment! Beardstenders must be prepared and excited about working in a fast paced environment while providing an enjoyable experience for our guests. The right candidate must be passionate about customer service and of course, beer!

Beardstenders are responsible for creating and building a positive experience for guests from the moment they sit down to the moment they make their departure from the pub. While our Beardstenders are expected to take orders, make recommendations, and pour beers; the big picture goal is to create the best experience we can for each person walking through our doors. Beardstenders must stay up to date on all things Beards as they must be able to answer questions regarding Beards history, the Petoskey area, menu items, beer, and merchandise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Adhere to the Beards Employee handbook
• Provide excellent customer service with each guest interaction
• Respond to any guest questions with confidence
• Remain up to date on all things Beards
• Develop strong relationships with guests
• Report to work on time, every time
• Maintain a clean working environment
• Communicate effectively with all team members
• Cultivate a team oriented environment
• Keep open communication with management on ways to continually improve efficiencies
• Must be willing and able to pre and post bus tables
• Be willing to complete various cleaning projects

Bartender

• Take orders and make beer recommendations
• Have the ability or be willing to learn how to properly pour a beer
• Greet all guests that walk through our door in a timely manner
• Take and serve snack orders
• Keep bar stocked with everything essential for serving beer/snacks/bottled pop
• Keep bar clean, including running glasses/dishes through dishwasher

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience is a must
• Outstanding customer service skills
• Must be friendly and personable
• Ability to be on your feet 8+ hours a day and lift up to 50 lbs
• Willing to continue education on all things Beards
• A passion for the history and future of Beards
• Will be tested on menu knowledge
• Must remain professional while having an outgoing personality to interact with our guests
• Cash handling skills
• Juggle a multitude of tasks at once
• Must become familiar with the POS (point of sales) system
