Behavior Support Specialist

This position is located at Valley Counseling Services (a program of Family & Community Services, Inc.)

Part-time 20-29 hours/week

SCHEDULE: M-F schedule, no holidays no weekends

School hours

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The primary role is to provide behavior support to children and/or adolescents in a school setting.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly assist students with decreasing behaviors of concern and increasing positive behaviors.
  • Respond to crisis situations to de-escalate students using approved crisis training strategies, behavior contracts and interventions.
  • Assist in the development of behavior plans including developing proactive strategies and modeling positive behavior for students.
  • Assist classroom staff teacher and instructional aides on the development of behavioral strategies.
  • Assist students in developing problem-solving and behavior management skills.
  • Coordinate groups focusing on conflict resolution, anger management and other topics related to student needs.
  • Accurately complete and submit required documentation in the required time frame. (e.g., Incident Reports, Behavior Emergency Reports, etc.).
  • Develop strong relationships and effectively communicate with parents, guardians, and care providers of students.
  • Maintain knowledge of community resources for student/family needs.
  • Interact in a positive and professional manner with all co-workers, outside agencies, school district personnel, and other community representatives.
  • Meet with supervisor on a regular basis to discuss intervention strategies, student progress, challenges, etc.
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality and dependability.
  • Utilize Trauma Informed practices when applicable.
  • Attend all training required by school personal such as CPI, SEL, trauma informed care or any other required training.
  • Job Assignment is contingent upon the direction of the partnering school district/ESC and can be severed at any time based on the expressed wishes of the district/ESC. Continued employment will be at the sole discretion of the employer.
  • Comply with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in the areas of positive behavior support, behavioral modification, behavioral health issues, de-escalation techniques, and community support.
  • The ability to respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations.
  • The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation).

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in a mental health or education related field preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Prior behavioral health experience preferred.
