Chugach is a sub-contractor to National Aerospace Solutions (NAS), LLC supporting the Test and Operations Sustainment activities at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, in Tullahoma, Tennessee. This position for a Safety and Health Professional will be working for Chugach supporting the maintenance and operations within the Base Operations Department. This includes providing safety and health support to employees working in Utility Operations, Utility Maintenance and Facility Maintenance across AEDC. Utility Operations includes Electrical, Steam, Cooling Water, Pot/Wastewater, and Fuels. Utility Maintenance includes electrical distribution and maintenance from 161kv - 120v, storage and distribution of steam, cooling water, pot/wastewater and fuels. Facility Maintenance includes HVAC, plumbing, building cranes, fire protection systems, painting, scaffolding and other building support requirements necessary to support the AEDC test mission. Chugach is a teaming partner with National Aerospace Solutions (NAS) and this position reports functionally to the NAS Safety manager.
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Provide safety and health consulting support to the Base Operations Department and to the NAS SHE Branch with a focus on the electrical safety aspects of the work performed by the Base Ops Dept.
- Has technical responsibility for interpreting complex requirements, evaluating, and applying appropriate safety engineering principles into scopes of work, plans, and methodologies suitable for achieving and maintaining compliance with safety requirements.
- Provide training to employees including, Electrical Safety, onboarding SHE Orientation, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry and others as required.
- Develop and conduct electrical safety training requirements to support Base Operations and NAS as required.
- Maintain currency of the NFPA-70E and National Electrical Code standards and utilize knowledge to provide support to update local safety procedures and standards.
- Assist in the development and delivery of relevant SHE topics to be delivered to site personnel.
- Lead/Participate in daily job site visits to relate to the craft employees and provide support with issues and follow up with resolutions based on industry safety standards, OSHA.
- Evaluate work processes in the field and utilize the STOP Work Authority when necessary to facilitate coaching opportunities to improve the safety culture.
- Manage Mishap Investigation, SHE Corrective Action, and SHE Assessment processes.
- Work with area personnel (craft and supervision) to develop and implement safety improvement/process tools.
- It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Eight (8) years’ work experience as an Electrician in an industrial environment, with documented leadership skills or B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Knowledge in a safety specialty (e.g., Arc Flash, Personal Protective Equipment, electrical lockout/tagout, fall protection, excavation, People Based Safety) or engineering (e.g., electrical, process safety, system safety) or related disciplines of the principles and fundamentals of quality best practices tools and processes.
- Understanding of safety management, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies.
- Knowledge of safety and health laws and regulations and applicable agencies’ permitting processes and responsibilities, engineering, construction, and subcontract work processes.
- Current U. S. Citizenship is required.
- Skilled in oral and written communication.
- Skilled in using Microsoft software programs: Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Preferred:
- Possess good communication skills for a service team environment.
- Completed Electrical Apprenticeship with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
- High-voltage experience.
