This recruitment is to fill four Therapist I/II vacancies that may be filled at any level depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant.
This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list to fill other openings without reposting.
Qualifications:
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS (all levels):
Knowledge of:
Principles, techniques and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, and various treatment modalities.
Biological, behavioral and environmental aspects of emotional disturbances, mental disabilities, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse.
Methods, practices and procedures of mental health programs, including but not limited to, the areas of counseling, crisis intervention, psychotherapy, case management practices and use of psychotropic medication.
The scope and activities of available public and private community resources.
Methods used in identification of clients’ individual, social, and behavioral problems and their analysis and resolution in existing social contexts.
Legislative and administrative rules and regulations pertaining to Lanterman-Petris-Short and Short-Doyle services.
Skills in:
Assessing and evaluating behavioral health problems, and making recommendations based on observations and interviews.
Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments.
Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Collaborating with multi-disciplinary treatment teams.
Assessing, analyzing, identifying issues, and recommending solutions to problems.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, other county employees and representatives from outside agencies.
Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of standard software including an electronic medical record.
Ability to:
Perform psychiatric social work and psychotherapy for Department clients.
Develop and maintain cooperative, constructive relationships with families of clients, members of other professional disciplines, social agencies, and other staff.
Develop clear and comprehensive case records and documentation.
Prepare treatment plans, client treatment recommendations, and a variety of reports.
Organize and manage a caseload.
Understand a therapist’s role and deal with clients in a variety of circumstances and settings in accordance with professional standards and ethics.
Conceptualize and prioritize the problems of mentally disordered persons, determining their needs, services, and appropriate treatment methods.
Integrate a variety of clinical approaches into a unified treatment plan.
Recognize potential crises and deliver crisis intervention services.
Handle stress and unstable client behavior.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Behavioral Health Therapist I
Experience:
Required practicum experience in a master’s program.
Training:
A master’s degree in psychology, social work, marriage and family counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university which provides the educational basis for licensing to provide psychotherapy in the State of California.
Licensing or Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.
Possession of or applied for registration as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern or an Associate of Clinical Social Work with the Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Behavioral Health Therapist II
Experience:
Two (2) years of post-graduate of increasingly responsible related experience
Training:
A master’s degree in psychology, social work, marriage and family counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university which provides the educational basis for licensing to provide psychotherapy in the State of California.
Licensing and Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.
Current registration as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Behavioral Health Therapist III (Senior)
Experience:
Two (2) years of substantial, active-practice, professional experience working in mental health counseling, psychotherapy, and related social services in a public or certified private welfare or health agency at the level equivalent to a Therapist II with Colusa County.
Training:
A master’s degree in psychology, social work, marriage and family counseling, or a related field from an accredited college or university which provides the educational basis for licensing to provide psychotherapy in the State of California.
Licensing and Certifications:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.
Possession of a valid California license as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage, Family and Child Counselor or Clinical Psychologist and have at least two years of full-time experience as a licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts; and meet the minimum qualifications by the Board of Behavioral Sciences to supervise Associate Clinical Social Workers and Marriage and Family Therapist Interns.

SALARY: BASED ON EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH THERAPIST I $ 4742-7779 (based on a 37.5 hour work week)
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH THERAPIST II $ 5236-8588 (based on a 37.5 hour work week)
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH THERAPIST III $ 5780-9481 (based on a 37.5 hour work week)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects, up to 30 pounds, as necessary to perform job functions. Negative PPD test (pre-employment and annual testing). Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, dust and scents, and potential exposure to hazardous physical substances. Tasks may require exposure to illness/disease, work related stress and hostile clients. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
