Join SCS and be a part of an exciting opportunity as a Transportation Coordinator to support older adults in Western Queens. As a key member of our Older Adult Center, you'll play an essential role in our transportation program, providing door-to-door service to older adults from their home to our Center located at 39th Street, off Queens Boulevard, in Sunnyside, Queens. You will also coordinate day trips for socialization and enrichment and agency-wide transportation needs as they arise.
Funded by the New York City Department for the Aging (NYC Aging), the Transportation Coordinator will work under the director of the Older Adult Center, and be a creative partner focused on safely driving our older adults to their destinations. You will be responsible for ensuring vehicles are maintained, keeping logs, and keeping data up-to-date in our funders database, Peer Place. The Transportation Coordinator will also be a thought partner with the Director of the Center for Active Older Adults, assisting with curating trips locally throughout Queens, as well as to the outer boroughs.
Focused on providing excellent customer service, the ideal candidate will also be responsible for the direct supervision of two to three drivers across six agency vehicles. You will play a crucial role in supervising and monitoring the ID scanning process for all trips and track daily transportation activities with program staff and volunteers. Agency-wide transportation coordination may periodically be coordinated.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all transportation needs for older adults and program-related activities.
- Report emotional and physical concerns to Director.
- Adhere to NC Aging and DOT standards and requirements.
- Supervise and monitor the ID scanning process for all trips and track daily transportation activities with program staff and volunteers.
- Conduct intakes for new and ongoing registrations of transportation clients.
- Maintain and respect confidentiality regarding members and donations.
- Manage databases with Peer Place, Speedway, DOT, and other relevant sites.
- Tally daily units; prepare daily and monthly activity logs and reports; and review for consistency and accuracy.
- Assist in the coordination of trips with the Older Adult Center Director as needed.
- Assist drivers with completing their time sheets when applicable.
- Maintain files on all administrative activities regarding transportation and transportation intakes.
- Responsible for tracking and keeping current all credentials of drivers.
- Responsible for supervision of all drivers and proper documentation of incidents and/or complaints.
- Report incidents to supervisor and police when applicable.
- Complete drivers' annual staff performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and accountability for drivers.
- Conduct daily inspections of vehicles and monthly logs.
- Coordinate maintenance and repair of vehicles with local mechanics.
- Maintain clear records of all routes, contributions, and registrations for transportation services.
- Conduct trainings on driver safety and emergency procedures.
- Learn routes for Queens Community District 2 including Sunnyside, Woodside, Maspeth, and Long Island City. Ability to read and provide directions to drivers.
Qualifications:
- Minimum High School diploma and three years customer service and driving experience.
- CPR certification required within 3 months of employment.
- Employee must possess a valid driver's license issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Clean driving record
- No moving violations in the past two years.
- Must provide a DMV-issued driving abstract every year.
- Strong computer skills.
- Bilingual: English/ Spanish preferred.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, volunteers, and participants.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Self-motivated.
Physical Requirements
Driving, bending, sitting, stooping, standing, and lifting. Ability to carry or move moderate-sized objects (40-60 lbs.). Must have vision of 20/40 or better.
Working Environment
Work is performed in all types of weather conditions, including rain and snow.
