ACF West Inc.'s Portland Branch Manager reports directly to the General Manager of the company. This role is a true general management position with full P&L responsibility for the location. The position requires the ability to develop, implement, control, and adjust market-specific plans to successfully implement the company’s growth strategy while simultaneously leading a team to achieve sales and profitability targets for the branch.

The focus and scope of this job are to ensure that the branch:

1. Successfully executes the company’s strategic plan in a comprehensive and systematic manner. Approximately 50% of the Branch Manager’s time should be devoted to this work.

2. Develops and executes plans to improve the sales, operational and financial performance of the branch. 3. Achieves branch results that align with the company’s strategic goals. 4. Achieves and maintains a safety-first culture – meeting or exceeding improvement targets.

Personal initiative, coupled with a sense of competitive drive, and the ability to stay focused on results despite changing conditions, is the key to achieving the performance objectives of this job. Because the business environment changes rapidly, the work involves innovation and creativity in planning and problem-solving. Sound decision-making is required to implement practical, timely solutions.

Self-assurance and the confidence to purposely drive toward results while leading and engaging the commitment of others is essential. A leadership style that is firm and goal-oriented, and yet motivates, trains, and engages others in an enthusiastic way is important. The emphasis on building rapport and relationships with individuals and groups requires an outgoing, poised, and persuasive communication style.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

RESULTS MANAGEMENT

1. Demonstrates effective budgeting, goal-setting, planning, coordination, and execution.

2. Achieves consistent positive results in Safety, Sales, Operations, and Service.

3. Communicates company, branch, and individual performance to all associates on a regular basis.

STRATEGIC CHANGE MANAGEMENT

1. Leads the branch transformation process.

2. Instills a culture of continuous improvement in all areas of the business.

3. Develops and implement a Branch Improvement Plan – A branch SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) and activities to address them.

SALES AND MARKETING MANAGEMENT

1. Drives organic sales growth through the successful execution of the sales planning process.

2. Develops and constantly refreshes a deep knowledge of the competitive landscape (customers, competitors, vendors).

3. Develops and implements a project strategy. 4. Coordinates with the Purchasing team to ensure an optimal structure is in place.

5. Performs as the branch Sales Manager.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

1. Builds and maintains a Safety-First operations culture. Ensures workplace safety for all employees and executes the branch safety plan and associates involvement initiatives.

2. Develops customer and market-based service levels with the goal of leading the market.

3. Implements Lean concepts to drive flawless execution of warehousing, production, and delivery activities.

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

1. Builds a culture of high performance and high engagement.

2. Develops and implements branch workforce (staffing) plans.

3. Implements effective interviewing, assessment, and selection techniques to identify the best available talent.

4. Provides a clear vision, effective training, targeted coaching, and high-potential mentoring.

5. Manages performance through effective goal-setting, timely feedback and prompt corrective action if needed.

6. Develops and implements branch succession plans and associated activities with the goal of providing career advancement opportunities to our best talent

4. This position requires approximately 15-20% travel.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 1. Manage and supervise an employee population ranging between 4 to 20 employees per branch.

2. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the branch.

3. Ensure the safety of all employees through diligent execution of the company’s safety program.

4. Ensure all supervisory responsibilities are carried out in accordance with corporate policies and applicable laws.

5. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Six to ten years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful candidates must have a successful track record of leading teams in sales and/or operations. Experience in the construction and distribution industry is desirable.

Language Skills

Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Additionally, must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or members of the business community.

Other Skills/Certification:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Word and Excel). Experience in managerial assignments with P&L accountability for sales and/or operations in the distribution industry is desirable.

Mathematical Skills:

Must show business acumen, and create and understand financial statements, branch budgets, and technical journals.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
