Bridge Operator - Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune

Bridge Operators on the Camp Lejeune team come from areas of eastern NC including Jacksonville, Richlands, Swansboro and Morehead City. The primary responsibility of the Bridge Operator is operation of the Onslow County Beach bridge to ensure the intercoastal waterway transit remains possible 365 days per year, 24 hours per day in accordance with standard operating procedures. The ideal EMI Bridge Operator has experience operating a radio and communicating with ICW boat traffic and US Coast Guard.



Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain daily operation & maintenance log.
    • review for problems/abnormalities that could affect safe bridge operation.
  • Open and close bridge following established instructions.
  • Perform daily operational checks.
  • Enforce posted bridge weight limit.
  • Maintain boat traffic log.
  • Ensure vessel accident report is completed for any vessel accidents.
  • Remove debris from bridge platform.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Able to operate a radio and demonstrate proper radio protocols for communication with ICW boat traffic and US Coast Guard.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • able to read and understand English language
  • Adaptable and flexible in work situations
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures
    • including proper use of personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 + years experience mechanical bridge operations.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid DL complaint with REAL ID Act or willing and able to obtain one
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background
  • Regular, dependable attendance required
  • U.S citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations
