Calandro's Supermarket is currently seeking a Wine/Liquor/Beer Associate for our Perkins Road location (only). We're looking for someone who's interested in *customer satisfaction above all else* (a Calandro's hallmark) and who loves dealing with people and their teammates in the Spirits Department and around the store, while being a diligent, efficient, safe, clean, and customer-centric wine, liquor, and beer stocker, inventory receiver, warehouse and backstock organizer, product merchandiser, and sales associate, a quick learner, and a pro-active and self-motivated individual for working in all Spirits Department activities (purchasing, receiving, stocking, inventory management, ordering, merchandising, sales, customer-relations, cleaning, etc.). Wine/Liquor/Beer Associate Job Responsibilities and Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • providing friendly customer service on-the-floor – for the Spirits Dept. and all other store departments (directing customers to product, seeking help from other Spirits Dept. and store staff to find items, taking special spirits orders, etc.),
  • engaging with and selling to any and all customers who enter the Spirits Dept. sales areas,
  • learning about Spirits Department products, so as to become a better salesperson and merchandiser, via personal research, regular communication and discussion with other experienced Spirits Dept. staff and vendors, tastings done in-store, etc.,
  • restocking the store shelves with daily wholesale wine, liquor, and beer deliveries,
  • fronting, organizing, and cleaning new and existing items on the shelves,
  • cleaning, upkeep, and occasional reconfiguration of store shelves,
  • general cleaning and upkeep of the store sales floor,
  • making signage and graphics for Spirits shelf-talkers, price tags, posters, etc. for proper wine, liquor, & beer merchandising,
  • finding and pulling out-of-date items on the shelves as part of our loss management program,
  • helping to manage cardboard recycling efforts by proper operation of the box crusher and cardboard bail processing,
  • unloading, receiving / check-in, and organization of arriving wholesale wine, liquor, and beer deliveries (with proper training on and operation of pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.),
  • backstock organization, tracking, and management,
  • pouring samples during in-store and/or external store special events involving Spirits tastings,
  • making wine, liquor, and beer orders with vendors, and
  • keeping up with and working off of a documented schedule.

Candidate Requirements (musts) include, but are not limited to:

  • being at least 21 years of age or older to be able to handle, pour, sell, and taste alcoholic products (per Louisiana State & East Baton Rouge Parish law),
  • ability to acquire a Responsible Vendor Permit, Retail Sales License, and/or Classified Employee License from the Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control and the East Baton Rouge Parish Alcoholic Beverage Control and Gaming Enforcement,
  • being capable of basic mathematical skills (for inventory receiving, tracking, etc.),
  • being capable of using (or learning to use) carts, box crushers, bailers, pallet jacks, forklifts, and other grocery and warehouse equipment,
  • ability to work, standing and moving, for up to 5 hours (worst case) between breaks,
  • ability to bend and lift loads up to 50 pounds, and push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds,
  • ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders, bend and twist neck and waist, and reach above and below shoulders and squat,
  • ability to perform repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation,
  • possessing excellent customer-relations, teamwork, and communication skills,
  • being a proactive, self-motivated, reliable, punctual individual, and- ability to work at least 20-25 hours per week in this part-time position.

Optional (but Desired) Skills and Experience include, but are not limited to:

  • prior retail wine, liquor, and/or beer stocking and sales experience, - prior grocery-store experience,
  • prior retail stocking, warehousing, receiving, or inventory mgmt. experience,
  • prior product merchandising experience,
  • prior experience in multi-tasking and time-management,
  • prior experience in customer-relations positions,
  • interest, ability, and/or prior experience in working in fast-paced job environments requiring speed, accuracy, and performance under pressure while maintaining a high level of safety, efficiency, and quality of work.
