Position Available: Companion/ Coach/ Mentor
Location: Hopewell Junction, NY (Dutchess County)
When: starting June 1, 2023
Salary: $25-30/hour
Description: Our family seeks an energetic, patient, and flexible individual to support our 23-year old son, who has a moderate autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A very personable and inquisitive young man, his interests include listening to music, cars, iPhone photography, chess, board games, MMA, yoga, swimming, and farm animal care. This is an ideal early-career position for someone with an interest in education, social work, human development, occupational therapy or other therapeutic disciplines. Our family is engaged, supportive and lives within an hour's drive.

Schedule (flexible): 3-8PM four days a week; and 8AM-8PM one day a week with some free time during the day. Weekends may be needed occasionally.

Responsibilities include:

● Life skills training at home and in the community
● Manage daily schedules and coordination with the local support agency that is presently providing some day-time programming
● Vocational support for volunteer or employment opportunities
● Recreation/hiking/activities
● Social activities with peers
● Providing local transportation

Requirements:

● Associate's or Bachelor's Degree required
● Experience working with young adults, preferably with and ASD or I/DD
● Excellent time -management and communication skills
● At least two references
● Clean driving record (automobile mileage expenses covered)
● No smoking/vaping/drugs of any kind
● An overall positive and friendly disposition
● Flexibility and a willingness to adapt should some programming circumstances change

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
