The North State Building Industry Foundation (NSBIF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide workforce development, community service, and meaningful industry research in support of and partnership with the homebuilding industry.
NSBIF works with the construction industry employers and training organizations to:
- Promote construction careers and employment opportunities to students, parents and individuals wanting to work in the industry.
- Educators, and people seeking meaningful well-paid work and career opportunities.
- Develop programs, curriculum, and certifications to increase the number of qualified entry level applicants.
- Match employers and qualified applicants and interns through a job placement portal, sponsoring/attending job fairs, and hosting matching events.
- Provide employability services to special populations including but not limited to at-risk participants, low-income individuals, veterans, ex-offenders, and unemployed people.
Work Location
The position will be in Sacramento or Rancho Cordova depending on the current work assignment. Some assignments may be completed remotely, and others may require off-site work at schools, training facilities, job centers, etc. Reliable transportation is needed as this role will be required to travel around town frequently.
General description
As a part of the work readiness team, the Case Manager will be responsible for completing a variety of workforce preparation, administrative and employment matching tasks with participants 18-30 years old. The Case Manager may also be responsible for similar duties related to programs serving 16–18-year-old youth, as well as a broader range of community members.
Primary duties and responsibilities
Administrative
- Maintain all electronic and hard copy files for the various programs.
- Recruit participants by distributing applications and recruitment flyers to various community service organizations, churches, schools, workforce and Career centers, public offices, and other organizations that support 18–30-year-old participants. Assist administrative assistant with social media posts.
- Conduct orientations for various NSBIF programs.
- Interview screen and certify participants using the Sacramento Employment Training Agencies (SETA) screening and certification process or any other approved certification processes.
- Contact participants on a regular basis to discuss activities and accomplishments.
- Assist participants in implementing NSBIF’s community service project.
- Assist participants in preparing for employment interviews.
- Monitor participants at their work experience and unsubsidized employment locations collecting timesheets and evaluation where appropriate.
- Work with participants to resolve barriers to successful completion of programs participants are enrolled in.
- Exit participants from enrolled program and follow up with participants as prescribed by the program elements.
- Complete program monitoring documents and participant progress and participate in the monitoring process and make corrections as needed.
- Stay in communication about work with other case managers and directors who are regularly offsite.
- Process MIS (Management Information System) documents as needed depending on program requirements.
- Enter case notes for all participants into the online case management databases depending on program requirements.
- Collecting timesheets and other payroll information; delivering paychecks to participants as necessary.
- Data entry for all necessary spreadsheets
- Participate in BIA/BIF staff meetings and events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Workforce Preparation
- Administer math and reading assessments (CASAS)
- Tutor participants in basic Math and English to next appropriate level
- Participate in “Floor duty" where required, assisting walk-in clients with job search activities
- Transporting participants to and from related training events and job placement activities when needed.
- Assist with weekly work-readiness training workshops.
Employment Matching Tasks
- Assess participants for readiness to enter the workforce.
- Form relationships with employers to provide work experience services to the participants.
- Other workforce development tasks as assigned.
Other duties may be required of the position including but not limited to
- Assisting with other NSBIF programs
- Overall organization support and general office tasks such as filing, faxing, taking phone calls, scheduling meetings, taking meeting minutes, making travel arrangements, event planning support, and other tasks as necessary.
- Representing NSBIF at community events, career fairs, job fairs, and other related events
Qualifications & Key Competencies
- Ability to tutor participants in basic math and reading.
- Experience with working with community individuals is preferred.
- Personal transportation and driver’s license required.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite
- Able to use MacBook
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Able to prioritize multiple demands and multitask.
- Able to work independently and work with new or ambiguous situations.
- Able to complete tasks with little supervision, producing work with few or no mistakes.

- Excellent listening and comprehension skills and can follow directions successfully.
- Experience in educational program development, communication, and marketing of programs.
Education
High School Diploma required
Experience in similar roles will be considered in lieu of degree
BA or BS in social work or similar field preferred
Hours & compensation
Full-time. Compensation dependent upon experience.
