About First Step
First Step Recovery Centers is a state-licensed, CARF-accredited nonprofit, non-residential alcohol and drug addiction treatment center for adult Tennessee residents. Our evidence-based outpatient treatment program (co-occurring capable) including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is primarily funded by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (TDMHSAS) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA), with additional funding from private donors and foundations.

Job Summary
First Step case managers help clients achieve successful treatment outcomes. An integral part of the clinical treatment team, they meet regularly with clients to offer support and to help remove any barriers that could prevent them achieving their self-directed treatment goals.
Job Duties
- Participate regularly in outpatient groups as a member of the treatment team, becoming familiar with clients in all phases of treatment to develop therapeutic and supportive relationships.
- In coordination with the team, support clients in identifying and creating treatment goals and developing recovery plans.
- Assist clients in determining the steps they need to take in order to achieve these goals and self-directed recovery.
- Serve as an advocate, mentor, or facilitator for resolution of issues that impede clients’ progress toward their goals.
- Act as a resource for clients experiencing transportation or other issues that affect participation in treatment, to ensure that their needs are met with respect to making their appointments, obtaining necessary medication, and resolving any technical issues related to virtual services.
- Facilitate and/or arrange referrals to social services, health, and governmental agencies.
- Maintain accurate records of all client interactions and complete all necessary forms and reports.
- Facilitate group counseling and education as PRN counselor, as assigned.
- Adhere to professional standards as outlined by protocols, rules, and regulations.
- Attend periodic staff meetings and trainings as assigned.
- Assist with other projects and duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent knowledge of and/or professional experience with case management principles and behavioral healthcare, preferably in the addiction treatment field.
- Ability to observe behavior problems and symptoms of substance use disorders, mental illness, and co-occurring disorders for the purpose of documentation and communication with the treatment team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, team members, and outside agencies and referral sources in both oral and written manner.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Familiarity with professional and technical emerging knowledge.
- Compassionate with teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, consumer family members and the general public.
- Ability to successfully complete pre-employment physical examination as required.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information in conformance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Ability to work varied days and hours including some evenings as needed.

Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
