Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking a Casework Associate who provides direct service to clients and case work services that include linking clients to resources and providing referrals. Assesses individuals’ needs, connects them with resources based on goals, and provides support, advocacy, information, and referral services. Works collaboratively with team providing back-up and assistance to clients.

The Weinberg Housing and Resource Center is a low-barrier emergency shelter that provides homeless services to over 275 adult men and women each night in the City of Baltimore. Our services include shelter, convalescent care, breakfast and dinner, showers, laundry, case management and a variety of life skills and empowerment classes – with a focused goal of assisting residents in obtaining permanent housing.

Schedule:

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works to maintain a safe and secure environment for clients, staff members, volunteers and visitors.
  • Handles specialized tasks which include monitoring the compliance of policies and procedures, reporting incidents, completing appropriate documentation, and emergency intervention as required.
  • Assists with the orientation of residents and/or volunteers.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to clients by being observant and attentive to both positive and negative behavior and reporting activities to supervisor (as needed).
  • Ensure residents are aware of their rights and the grievance process.
  • Monitors building activity to help ensure safety, security and compliance with building policies and procedures.
  • Addresses emergency situations appropriately and in a professional manner

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and 1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to utilize, or willingness to learn computer systems and software, necessary to perform position functions. (Basic computer, web browsing, online training, and email usage skills.)
  • Shows reliability by being punctual; maintains consistent attendance.
  • Good social skills with respectful demeanor toward staff, clients, and visitors.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to intervene between 2 or more people in a non-violent manner
  • Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21
    years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver’s license issued
    by the state of residence. There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede
    driver’s ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than
    three (3) points on their driving record.

REQUIREMENTS & ABILITIES:

  • Must have ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form; organize and prioritize work; develop beneficial working relationships with service providers; pay attention to details; work independently and as a productive member of a team; and meets established deadlines and goals.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Working in low or high temperatures and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Hearing and vision abilities within normal range (corrected) to observe and communicate with others.

Catholic Charities’ policy requires employees in this position to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, which includes a process for requesting exemption.
