Position Summary:

The CDL driver is responsible for the transportation of permitted loads to and from job sites and to deliver materials to customers in a manner that will optimize the organization’s market share and savings, improve the organization’s efficiency, help achieve the organization’s mission and goals and result in outstanding customer service. Transport and deliver products to customers by applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and the ability to follow permitted routes as laid out by TxDOT. The driver will be responsible for driving to and from designated locations, verifying loads to shipping papers, maintaining record of duty status according to state and federal regulations and performing pre-trip and post trip inspections.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submit a written report on the condition of the truck at the end of each trip.
  • Drive truck to and from designated destinations of up to 11 hours with and maximum of 14 hours total as DOT rules allow.
  • Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather.
  • Must be able to operate equipment in all types of weather and conditions. This includes going forward and backing up long distances, around corners and in and around very tight areas.
  • Report all accidents and incidents involving drivers or company equipment.
  • Report highway safety hazards noted in route.
  • Promptly report and delays due to breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions or other emergencies.
  • Maintain records required for compliance with state and federal regulations including driver’s record of duty status, mileage records and other records required by law.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures and comply with all federal, state and local regulations for the safe operations of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Must have 3 years with CDL license.
  • Must have experience with heavy haul.
  • Must have experience with cement.
  • Must have at least 1 year of pneumatic experience.
  • Must have experience with running heavy equipment.
  • Over the road driver experience, preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods sitting in a trailer cab or pilot’s cabin for long periods of time.
  • Ability to maintain single task focus and situational awareness.
  • Long term physical fitness for duty to maintain all licenses and certifications of fitness as required by regulatory agencies and licensing entities (DMV, FAA, DOT, et cetera).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Determine the distance between objects.
  • React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Move two or more limbs together (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
  • Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
