The purpose of this position is to provide support for the Ambulatory Pediatric clinics. This position will serve as an extension of the physicians, but report to the Nurse Administrator of Clinical Operations. The Department of Pediatrics is looking for a Certified Medical Assistant to work in the Pediatric Outpatient clinical areas. The selected candidate will assist in the outpatient management of general pediatric and adult patients (may include pediatric subspecialties such as Hematology, Oncology, Adolescent Health, Endocrinology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, and Infectious Disease). This position necessitates an energetic and enthusiastic individual to assist with the outpatient health care management of both well and sick children. Independent care will be expected, including administering immunizations. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle high volumes of phone calls and be able to communicate effectively with patients. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and basic computer skills needed for entering data into the electronic medical record. Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial. The ideal candidate has to be able to communicate with patients and patient families, as well as with healthcare professionals. In addition, candidates should be able to work independently, prioritize and handle multiple tasks and complete tasks effectively and in a timely manner. Responsibilities of this position include nursing support, technical assistance, assisting physicians with some procedures, and the activities of maintaining a safe environment. The selected candidate will interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners on a daily basis to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. The selected candidate will also serve as an educator for the patient population and their families regarding preventative health measures, disease, and disease management.
Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with a rotating scheduled late day to cover patient care.

Minimum Education/Experience
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)
License or Certification required by statute or regulation
Depending on candidate qualifications, one of the following will be required:
(1) Contributing: Registered NAI through the NC Department of Health Human Services
(2) Journey: Registered NAII through the NC Board of Nursing
(3) Advanced: Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is preferred OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT). If not already certified or registered, please note that certification or registration through the previous mentioned organizations, or a CCMA through the National Healthcareer Association, must be obtained 6 months from your start date for continued employment.
(1) Contributing: Registered NAI through the NC Department of Health Human Services
(2) Journey: Registered NAII through the NC Board of Nursing
