Clinical and Research Outreach Liaison

About FAIR Health

FAIR Health is a national, independent nonprofit organization, incorporated under New York law and qualifying as a public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Established in 2009 to bring transparency, integrity, reliability and accessibility to healthcare costs for all healthcare stakeholders, FAIR Health houses the nation’s largest collection of private healthcare claims data: over 40 billion private insurance claim records contributed by over 70 payors and administrators nationwide. FAIR Health’s evidence-based programs disseminate pertinent healthcare cost and utilization information to all stakeholders.

FAIR Health’s grant-funded programs seek to promote health insurance literacy, consumer engagement and the inclusion of cost information in tools that facilitate shared decision making—the discussion between patients and/or caregivers and healthcare providers to decide on care, balancing clinical evidence with patients’ preferences and values. These initiatives have informed the continual enhancement of our free, award-winning consumer site in English (as fairhealthconsumer.org) and Spanish (as fairhealthconsumidor.org), used by thousands of patients per week to estimate out-of-pocket medical and dental costs and learn health insurance basics. The site has been recognized by the White House Summit on Smart Disclosure, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, URAC and the eHealthcare Leadership Awards.

Thanks to the generous support of foundations and other organizations, FAIR Health has expanded its consumer-oriented efforts through projects that seek to equip consumers with tools and resources to navigate the healthcare system and make informed healthcare decisions. Projectshave also involved the development and dissemination of shared decision-making toolsthat combine clinical options and cost information for palliative care scenarios, preference-sensitive conditions that disproportionately affect people of color and serious conditions affecting older adults (65 and older). FAIR Health offers a dedicated sectionfor tools, educational content and resources for older adults and family caregivers on the FAIR Health Consumer website.
