Essential Functions
- Coordinates clinical service delivery provided to designated department(s). Provides information to the director or designee about clinical activities and program demands to ensure adequate staffing to meet patients’ needs and to maintain quality of services being provided.
- Conducts and documents initial psychological assessment of patients.
- Conducts psychological evaluations as needed, for Medicine Clinics i.e., Infectious Diseases, Advanced Heart Failure and Bariatric Surgery Pre-OP evaluations.
- Establishes psychological service delivery plan subject to timely reassessment and revision.
- Performs detailed and specific psycho diagnostic assessment, including psychological testing and psychological evaluations.
- Provides psychotherapy to include counseling, group and family therapy, sexual counseling, cognitive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-based therapy and behavior therapy.
- Communicates with treatment teams to maintain continuity of psychological and other care and to reduce unnecessary duplication of services.
- Participates in discharge planning to provide appropriate referral and liaison for patients’ and families’ psychological needs.
- Provides consults on inpatient units within scope of practice.
- Participates in agency-wide training programs and in-services.
- Participates in the clinical peer-review process.
- Provides quality and timely clinical documentation, per Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies’ requirements.
- May provide clinical supervision of other clinicians or clinicians in training.
- Maintains detailed documentation of services provided to permit administrative and peer review; audit of services against charges for services and meet documentation requirements of the designated department(s) and the District of Columbia.
- Develops behavioral assessment, treatment, and remediation programs for patients in designated department(s) and implements such programs in collaboration with other disciplines.
- Serves as the psychological consultant to treatment teams.
- Engages in teaching/training as required.
- Maintains and enhances clinical skills, via supervision, in-service training, appropriate workshops, courses and conferences.
- Completes documentation and charge capture per hospital regulations.
- Adheres to the standards for ethical and professional practice of the American Psychological Association and the District of Columbia.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years experience in psychological assessments of patients with psychiatric/behavioral health disorders. Must be flexible to adjust to the needs of a fast-paced environment, demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and display excellent oral/written communication skills. Previous adult behavioral health and substance use treatment experience is preferred. Postdoctoral training in medical psychology is preferred. Candidates must have active District of Columbia Psychologist license or be eligible for endorsement.
