A Licensed Nurse Assistant (LNA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is a professional member of the health care team whose primary responsibility is providing supportive nursing care under the supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act regulations of the State Board of Nursing. This position reports to the licensed nurse. In an institutional setting, this position reports to the designated person.

Qualifications:
1. Must possess a valid, current license under the State Board of Nursing.
2. Must be of mature and responsible character.
3. Must possess general knowledge of the disease process and basic standards of personal care.
4. Must possess knowledge of necessary actions in emergency situations.
5. Must effectively communicate with the client, their significant others, and the Nursing Supervisor.
6. Must be in good physical and mental health.
7. Must complete this agency’s employment process.

Duties:
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Provide direct personal nursing care to acute, sub-acute, chronically ill, and convalescent clients.
2. Provide primary personal care according to the plan of care.
3. Monitor the client’s condition.
4. Notify the supervisor of changes in the client’s condition.
5. Document Activities of Daily Living accurately and submit the vital signs and weights in a timely manner.
6. Work in cooperation with facility administration and personnel.
7. Participate in continuing educational programs.

Performance:
Performance is deemed competent when the LNA/CNA:
1. Demonstrates ability to provide nursing care within the parameters of the State Nurse Practice Act and the policies and procedures of this agency.
2. Demonstrates ability to implement a client’s care plan.
3. Demonstrates ability to monitor a client’s condition accurately.
4. Demonstrates practical communication skills.
5. Demonstrates ability to document pertinent information and submit records following this supplemental agency policy.
6. Must be able to lift over 50 lbs.

This is not a full-time but contracted travel position.

Delivering general hygiene such as bath, shower, grooming, and mouth/denture care. Assisting with elimination via urinals, bedpans, and bowel and/or bladder programs. Performs technical procedures as delegated and after observation by the Charge Nurse according to unit policy by taking and recording patient s vital signs, taking and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration, applying heat and cold, taking height and weight and recording, working within isolation precautions, performing pre/post procedural care as delegated. Assists others in the performance of more complicated treatments or diagnostic procedures as requested/assigned and performing other procedures specific to clinical area. Provides support to licensed nursing staff by collecting specimens (urine, stool), forwarding specimens to laboratory, performing simple recordkeeping, answering phones as requested, transporting or walking patients, communicating to licensed staff regarding patient s condition changes, participating in care planning for patients, giving and taking report on assigned patients to Charge Nurse, participating in patient care conferences. Provides assistance and emotional support to patients and families by talking with patients and families, listening to patients and families, knowing and demonstrating activity supportive of patient rights. Assists Charge Nurse in maintaining unit standards by returning equipment properly labeled, maintaining clean/safe unit environment, maintaining unit supply standards, making appropriate charges for patient items, transporting of patients for diagnostic tests and therapies, keeping halls free of equipment and clutter. Complies with body substance isolation procedures. Attends meetings and in-service sessions, as directed. Requires regular attendance and punctuality. Performs other assigned duties. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A current Colorado Certified Nursing Aide license or temporary permit to practice as a graduate nurse s aide in the State of Colorado.
