SUMMARY: Performs necessary sets-ups and operates precision metal working machinery including but limited to lathes, mills, and drill presses proficiently. Can competently fit and assemble parts to make or repair mechanisms, tools or machines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Operates various types of precision machinery including but not limited to lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, hand tools and milling machines proficiently.
  • Determines dimensions and tolerances of pieces to be machined, sequence of operations, and machines required by studying specifications, mechanical drawings, sketches, damaged parts or description of parts.
  • Performs quality checks expertly using precision measuring instruments to check accuracy.
  • Operates CNC equipment as required
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Mentoring is expected
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Able to pass math & measurement assessment
  • Provides own tools as needed to perform some aspects of the job
  • Proficient with reading of mechanical drawings
  • Ability to read precise calibration equipment including but not limited to micrometers, calipers, and depth gauges
  • Possesses machine shop training in mechanics, shop materials, metal properties and layout, and machining procedures
  • Knowledge of how to use CNC equipment
  • Inspection of dimensional tolerances on work produced
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High School or GED equivalent
  • Post high school certification / degree in machining preferred
  • 3 years’ experience in the precision metal working machinery
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Must have basic reading and writing skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Abie to convert decimals to fractions and vice versa.
  • Able to read a tape measure within 1/16”
COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Basic date entry skills including how to print documents
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, crouch, kneel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is an industrial metal fabrication shop with exposure to airborne dust, moving industrial machinery, and some hazards requiring PPE. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
