POSITION SUMMARY:

Vital Village Networks aims to improve child well-being and seed sustainable and scalable community change around child protection by mobilizing a collective investment from residents, community organizations and institutions using a strengths-based and trauma-informed paradigm.

The Community Impact Associate will work closely with stakeholders to build the capacity of communities to promote child wellbeing and improve equity in child health and educational outcomes at the population-level, and to increase long-term benefits of community change initiatives. The Community Impact Associate will support the following roles:
  • Program Operations: building and maintaining partner relationships, facilitating improvement processes and supporting the community network of partners in identifying and achieving a collective vision and goals.
  • Network Communications: curating and sharing lessons learned across sites through the preparation of briefs, e-newsletters, presentations, and reports to aid people in recognizing the assets of traditional and non-traditional leaders, while at the same time framing the work in ways that lead to the development of new leadership structures that are more fluid, adaptable and engaging.
  • Leadership Opportunity Coordination: planning for meetings, webinars, and conferences that facilitate leaders' ability to energize and mobilize people around a change agenda, and helps community institutions become learning organizations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
  • Program Operation to increase long-term benefits of community change initiatives:
  • Build and sustain relationships with national partners and stakeholders from selected community sites.
  • Extensive correspondence and communication with partners to add value to existing and emerging community initiatives that help to strengthen families and communities.
  • Assists with coordinating network-wide use of improvement strategies to support and sustain successful collective community change, including: iterative learning cycles, local development and execution of action plans, and the use of metrics and narrative to track progress.
  • Network Communications:
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant progress reports, presentations, briefs, blogs, e-newsletters.
  • Provides data and information to network partners and curates information in a readily accessible, understandable and actionable manner to create opportunities for all partners to build on their capacity and find ways to expand their ability to learn from one another and from the community around us.
  • Leadership Opportunity Coordination:
  • Support the planning of workshops, conferences, and meetings that facilitate leaders' ability to energize and mobilize people around a change agenda, and helps community institutions become learning organizations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree required. A Master's Degree in Public Health, Education, Journalism, Management, Urban Studies, or Policy preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with collaboratively designing and facilitating group decision-making processes, project management, program operations, coordinating events, community engagement strategies, and communications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Strong knowledge of trauma informed, healing-centered frameworks and parent, family, and community leadership models
  • Previous experience with community-based participatory approaches, community outreach and engagement, group facilitation, community organizing, communications, and event, meeting, and training coordination
  • Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, growth mindset, collaborative leadership style.
  • Detail-oriented, ability to manage complex timelines, well-organized coordination and communication strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) including experience writing narrative reports, case studies, toolkits, and other accessible communications tools
  • Working knowledge of enterprise tools (MS Office applications, Slack, Basecamp) and video conferencing software (Zoom, GoToMeeting).
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations. Strong ability to work with diverse multi-sector partners and grassroots organizations
  • Commitment to racial equity and strengths-based community capacity building
  • Advanced training and/or experience in anti-racism practice and facilitating dialogues on structural racism, justice and equity
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills not required, but a plus (especially Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, Cape Verdean).
  • Experience or familiarity with language and technology justice strategies

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS (Responsible for on-call, 24 hr. coverage, etc.):
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends when required.
  • Travel within the United States will be required for this role.
