Title: College and Career Readiness Coordinator
Department: St. Johns University’s Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP)
Location: (In-Person) John Adams High School, Queens Collegiate High School St. John’s Campus
The Liberty Partnerships Program is a State funded grant program sponsored by the NEW YORK STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT. St. John’s LPP is seeking a Parent Coordinator to chair our Parent Action Committee (PAC) and to create parent engagement opportunities that enhance our student and program services. The LPP Parent Coordinator is a part-time, in-person position that will serve the families of students enrolled in the SJU Liberty Partnerships Program. Students enrolled in SJU’s LPP are from district 27 and 28 high schools in Queens New York (John Adams and Queens Collegiate High Schools).
Duties:
Plan, implement, and coordinate opportunities, activities and events that promote college and career readiness while encouraging student involvement and engagement as outlined below:
- Plan, implement and coordinate with LPP staff a full range of College Readiness/Workforce development activities and opportunities for participating students during the school day and afterschool.
- Collaborate and develop ongoing relationships with the College readiness coordinator, teachers and guidance counselors of each school and collaborate with said individuals on college readiness events such as college fairs, job fairs, or tours.
- Work collaboratively with community partners to provide college and career readiness initiatives for Students.
- Conduct monthly college or career presentations for students including college tours and/or job shadowing opportunities.
- Active member of NYSED Statewide College readiness Subcommittee.
- Plan and implement activities that support parents in becoming their child’s first teacher and advocate as they transition through stages of educational settings; assist parents in addressing community needs.
- Prepare a monthly narrative and or progress report on activities i.e. activity calendar and progress notes that supports work being done with Students.
- Assist with student recruitment
- Maintain appropriate records, data, and surveys to enhance program planning.
- Responsible for a case load of up to 30 students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in education field, Social Work, Psychology or other mental health related field required.
- Master’s in Education or Social Work or School Guidance strongly preferred
- NYS Teaching Certification or LMSW preferred
- 5+ years working with students and families in high school or community-based setting
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Knowledge of MS office-strong ability to create PowerPoint presentations and operate Zoom and/or other remote options.
Hours: 6-10 hours weekly, some evenings or weekends required (some hybrid remote options may be available via zoom for evening or weekend parent meetings and/or workshops only). Evenings or weekends are substituted when necessary and are not an addition to regular work schedule-10 hours weekly max.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly salary range for this position is $25-$47. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
