THE OPPORTUNITY: The department uses a mass appraisal process which is the use of standardized procedures and mathematical calculations for collecting and appraising property to ensure that all properties within a municipality are valued uniformly and equitably. We are searching for a commercial/residential appraisal professional with strong customer service skills and commercial/residential appraisal knowledge who is looking to join our team of appraisal processionals. Specifically:
To use your grounding in general appraisal knowledge, excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and ability to work within a culturally and generationally diverse environment to collaboratively set fair and equitable commercial property values.- To use your communication skills to communicate property assessment policies and procedures to the taxpayers we serve.

With a growing portfolio of property parcels, King County's Department of Assessments is looking for new employees to determine true and fair value of commercial property for tax-assessment purposes. The successful candidate will display:
Strong organizational, analytical, communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a collaborative, team environment.- Customer focus with a dedication to integrity, ethics, trust and values.
- A genuine interest in commercial/residential real estate which may include field inspections in different settings and environmental conditions.
- The ability to read and understand building construction plans, specifications and blueprints with an aptitude for spatial relationships.
- Proficiency and ease in using business productivity tools and cutting edge technology in your everyday work; (We use iPads, Microsoft Office Suite and other assessment related tools)
- Exceptional listening skills and the ability to keep up with evolving business needs through flexibility and rapid integration of new concepts.
- Confidence in making decisions with problem solving, time management, and organizational skills.
- A state issued appraiser license is desirable though not required upon hire.
- Or, any combination of education and/or experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position above.
- Foreign language skills, in addition to core commercial appraisal experience are a desirable applicant characteristic for this position.
- Possession of an Assessor's Accreditation Certificate as required by the state of Washington, or the ability to complete the accreditation within one year of hire.

- Ability to use a personal vehicle in the performance of field work assignments;
- A successful background review and pre-employment physical examination.
The primary work location for this position is the King Street Center Building, 201 S. Jackson ST., Seattle, WA and there will be required fieldwork and telework required for this position. Our offices in the King Street Center Building operate under a fragrance and scent free policy. This policy is intended to promote a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
Working Conditions: Position requires both working in an office setting and field/tele-work appraising commercial real property through-out King County.

The work associated with this position will be performed both in-office and remotely.Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
