Job description
The Passaic County Department of Human Services is seeking a detail-oriented Community Organization Specialist. Under the direction of the Human Services Director, the Community Organization Specialist is responsible for facilitating communication and coordination between community resources/services, community partners, and providers and does other related work as required:
- Gather data that will help the agency in responding to citizens’ needs, including specific surveys and reports.
- Communicates to the public the purpose of various programs and the impact it may have on their well-being.
- Help the community to identify socio-economic issues that affect their overall health and develop health/social management plans and goals.
- Motivate residents to be active and engaged participants in their health and overall well-being.
- Conduct door-to-door visits.
- Train residents in activities necessary for them to assist the administration in accomplishing the county’s community development goals.
- Ability to suggest strategies for the realization of community expectations.
- Provide training and technical assistance to residents in setting up their organizations and conducting meetings.
- Help residents navigate healthcare and social service programs.
- Knowledge of community residents and characteristics of the area, and of available services and programs in the area.
- Provide culturally appropriate health education and information.
- Advocate for individuals and community health needs.
Education and Experience:
One (1) year of experience organizing groups of people in such fields as trade unionism, community organization, political action, or fundraising.
A Community Health worker license is a plus.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Knowledge of community agencies and resources. The ability to recognize developing social problems and recommend preventive action to avert crises.
License:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $46,500.00 per year
