We are hiring Compensation Specialist for one of our clients in Laurel, MD.

Job Description:

  • The Compensation Specialist provides analysis, guidance and administration of compensation pay practices and policies.
  • Actively participates in the design, execution and administration of compensation programs, policies and procedures assuring internal equity and external competitiveness.
  • The position provides consultative services to management and other members of the organization regarding compensation policies and practices.
  • The position reviews new and revised job descriptions to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Leads market pricing initiatives and analyzes competitive market data.
  • Leads internal equity reviews.
  • Leads meetings with various customer groups regarding job evaluations, re-organizations and other compensation matters.
  • Conducts audits for data compliance and program design.
  • Conducts research on best practices to determine if programs and policies need to be updated, modified or created; makes recommendations.
  • Maintains the Classification and Salary Schedule and updates it quarterly on the Intranet.
  • Provides consultative services to management in the areas of job descriptions, job analysis, job evaluation, and compensation policies and procedures.
  • Develops proposed job and career progression pathways and recommends grades for new positions.
  • Conducts organizational job studies to streamline job classification structures.
  • Conducts special compensation studies to address specific problems in recruitment and retention.
  • Develops information and recommendations for negotiations with union(s).
  • Provides information for the job table in Oracle HRMS to the Sr. HRIS Analyst including EEO, worker’s compensation code, FLSA, grade.
  • Participates in published and ad-hoc compensation surveys.
  • Performs all tasks and job functions in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Skills required:

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of compensation management including federal and state laws which apply to compensation management; of current best practices in the field of compensation management.
  • Working knowledge: - human resources management and business administration. - project management.
  • Strong analytical skills and detailed oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability in strategic thinking, internal consulting, conflict resolution, and communication at all organizational levels;
  • Ability to work cooperatively with peers and supervisors in a team-based environment;
  • Ability to make independent decisions, solve problems and implement those decisions;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement.
  • Ability to use standard office automation software

Experience Required:

  • 5 years professional experience in job analysis, design, implementation and administration of compensation programs with a Bachelor's degree
  • 9 years professional experience in job analysis, design, implementation and administration of compensation programs with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Preferred:

  • Prior experience using HRIS/HRMS systems such as Oracle, SAP, PeopleSoft;
  • Prior experience using MarketPay;
  • Use of Excel advanced software.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related area OR High school diploma or equivalent.

Education Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Certification as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP).

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $43.81 per hour
