JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is the placement of aerial and underground cable plant.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Placement of aerial and underground cable plant.

Aerial: placement of cable suspension messenger strand and related hardware, drilling suspension bolt holes, placement of aerial cable and splicing CATV equipment and attachment of aerial cable and splicing accessories.

Underground: placement of cable and splicing in underground vaults and conduit.

Loading of messenger strand cable onto truck and/or trailer. Aerial or underground placement and splicing of same.

Replacement of underground handholes, meter boxes, and pullboxes.

Use of compressor and heavy equipment.

Recognize and comply with all safety policies of the company and federal/state regulations and company safety policies.

Able to operate all equipment in compliance with federal and state regulations.

Able to work in constricted spaces and positions involving crouching, squatting and/or kneeling.

Agility to climb up and down ladders and/or gaff poles.

Regular attendance is required.

OTHER DUTIES:
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

Mathematical ability to calculate cable footage and attention to detail, concentration and alertness while performing aerial and underground work.
Must have a valid Hawaii driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
CDL license preferred.
Stable employment history.

EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE Number of Years
May be required to qualify for a valid CDL license and meet medical driver certification requirements per DOT standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Has extensive contact with the general public and system personnel.
On call Hours as needed.
May be required to operate CDL vehicle of 19,000 GVW to 26,000 GVW aerial lift trucks.
Lift unit, one and two ton chain hoist, impact wrench, brace and bit, 3 pound hammer, wrenches with 12” adjustment, bolt cutters and buster/mud gun. 500/750 coaxial, suspension messenger strand, line hardware and equipment, underground boxes 12” x 20”, 18” by 36” and 2’ x 4’, pick and shovel.
Other tools as required.
Driving vehicle, pole climbing and balancing while on pole, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, walking and reaching while performing underground work, standing while in aerial basket and performing pole work.
Pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 80 pounds while performing aerial and underground work. Must be under the maximum bodyweight limit to meet ladder requirements in accordance with Company’s and manufacturer’s specifications.
Walking while performing underground work, reaching while performing aerial and underground cable and splicing work, and visual depth perception.
Must be capable of performing aerial and underground work outdoors in heat/extreme head or in cold, wet, humid, noisy, dusty and moldy conditions.
